The word legend is far too easily banded about nowadays, but if someone is deserving of that status at QPR it was indeed Alan McDonald. Not only, according to my father who has watched Rangers since 1939, the best centre-half the club has ever had but off the pitch a true gentleman off it. Lodged in my home town of Greenford when he first came over from Northern Ireland and eventually married a Greenford girl, would always see him down our local on a Friday or Saturday night and always happy to chat with supporters. Played nearly 500 games for the club over 17 years and played 52 times or his country. If he played for one of the big clubs he would be without doubt known as one of the defensive greats to be produced within these islands, in reality he was. Ironically our current manager Mark Hughes recently stated that Macca was the hardest defender he had ever played against and indeed their duals are stuff of legends down Shepherds Bush. The QPR community is in mourning for one of its true greats.

Rest in peace Macca, and thanks for the pleasure you gave over nearly two decades.
