EXCLUSIVE: Cardiff seal deal for Mutch as England Under 21 star exits Birmingham
By NEIL MOXLEY

22 June 2012 | UPDATED: 19:02, 22 June 2012

However, while Mutch's arrival is an undoubted coup for Cardiff, it will however, fuel speculation that Peter Whittingham may be off to pastures new.

On the move: Mutch is heading to Wales to join Cardiff

Cardiff City have signed England Under 21 international Jordon Mutch from Birmingham City.

The Bluebirds have taken advantage of the current cash problems at St Andrew's and have swooped on the 20-year-old playmaker.

The fee is likely to be in excess of £1m for the player who made his breakthrough last term under Chris Hughton.

Bluebirds' boss Malky Mackay is a long-time admirer of the midfielder. The Scot gave Mutch his first-team chance at Watford when he took the player on loan from Birmingham two seasons ago.
News that Lee Clark is expected to be announced as the club's new boss is not likely to placate supporters who have seen a succession of players leave St Andrew's in the wake of Birmingham's demotion from the Premier League 12 months ago.
Clark met acting chairman Peter Pannu in Birmingham to finalise his appointment yesterday afternoon.

However, while Mutch's arrival is an undoubted coup for Cardiff, it will however, fuel speculation that Peter Whittingham may be off to pastures new.

Personally I dont see Whitts going as like I said before, Ray Ranson will get £3.2 mill approx, maybe if were offered over £5 mill.

i cant see whitts being sold... mutch will be a very useful addition but surely not a direct replacement for whitts, still very young...

Agree Annis, can't see him leaving at all, unless witts made a huge fuss and he doesn't seem the type.

If we sell Whitts, it will just confirm that we are not serious about promotion.

Lets get this into perspective !!!!

We have signed a promising kid for £900K, we signed one at Christmas and all we have seen off him is at the half time draw.

The fact we are buying promising kids for our U-21 team is awesome but we haven't just spent £4million on a Jamie O'Hara type player have we ? There is no evidence this kid could dislodge Whitts as the most talented player in the Championship.

Calm down MM is building a dynasty, lets roll with it........

he has more all round attributes than whitts.i,m not saying he,s the new messiah(some blues fans thought that then turned on him when his form dipped)but he really could be a big singing for you.chap behind me at blues has a son playing non league.the lad played with j.m at blues youth team level for a while.think he played up top mow and then in the youth.he can strike a ball.how many 6ft midfield players do you know who can get around a pitch or sit in front of two centre halfs.?can ping a ball but sometimes goes for the hollywood ball when it isn,t needed.that can be sorted by mm.good in the air as well.you have a good lad on your hands.played a lot last year so he hasn,t been brought to get 10mins experience here or there

Didn't turn out bad when we brought Scott Sinclair in? Not having a pop, just that sometimes certain managers have their top players, maybe this is the case here?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but hasn't he only copied and pasted a story from a national newspaper?

Hardly a crime is it....

It's called keeping you informed with the latest media interpretation on the situation. How you read it is up to you. Newspapers are there to speculate.

Imo whitts is going nowhere.

Mutch is the replacement for McPhail, Malky really rates McPhail but unfortunately due to injurys and health his game time is reducing year after year.

Mutch is a brilliant young replacement, a great Malky signing, a young and hungry player with a great potential and attitude. Nice one Malky, and a few more to follow :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Not a replacement for McPhail then. If he was a player who went sideways a lot, created hardly any goals and gave away lots of free kicks now that is a replacement for McPhail.

not entirely for the amount we paid if im honest.

But its early days yet so cant judge too harshly, also i think he shocking yellow card (what was the ref doing!?) early in yesterdays game stopped him a little bit, and he was rightly taken off on the hour mark.

Jeff, I think Mutch is a very good player and when 100% fit will show that consistently. I am very happy with him and he will only get better.
