An article in today's Guardion reports on G4S running police stations across the country and within 5 years the majority of Police services will be run by private companies like G4S.
The modular building company I am foreman for has been working with G4S for the past 4 years and an exclusive contract has been drawn up between our two companies where we design and build the modular custody suites, we are currently waiting to start work on a project in Lincoln on 3 hub and spoke designs and another in Bridgend is in the pipeline.
G4S believe they will be buying around 35 of the custody suites from us in the next 5 years for forces all over the UK, the idea is that there will be very few police officers at these suites and the vast majority being private staff.
As a company we have provided custody suites to many UK forces including the Met and Strathclyde.
For myself and our workforce it is a fantastic business venture, into which we have put a lot of time and effort and will continue to provide us with added job security on top of our more traditional work such as schools, hospitals and MOD work.

I work within a police force and have already seen the number of custody stations reduced. There is definitely more cut backs that need to be implemented.
I can see this being a brought in sooner rather than later.
I'd like to custody suites kept within each of their forces.

Carl, I worked as a custody officer for G4S in South Wales custody suites for 4 years, we greatly improved the effientancy of tre suites, before us the suites were run by coppers coming to the end of their time, or the sick, lame and lazy coppers.
We made huge improvements to be fair, I quit after 4 years, money was crap

On a side note, G4S seem to be taking over everything, so many fingers in so many pies

Privitisation in any emergency service is wrong they are not there to make a profit

Private security guards have been is custody suites for a while, taking your photographs and finger prints, taking you to court etc.
If they take over the whole operation that is plain wrong, even though the actual guards are always sounder than the police.
G4S, Serco and Capita are taking over everything, pure profiteering from the cuts. Scum companies supported by scum politicians.
Capita took over the department I worked for last year, they are like a virus to the public purse. Turned down a job transfer and took my redundancy and ran.

Read up on what private prisons in the U.S and the consequences of having such a system in place. For me, this is the first step on a path with a dire outcome. Only thing we can hope for is that the issue is devolved to Welsh government and hope they have more sense

Policing on the cheap. What next? Fire men?? ambulance??? hospitals????
