Sporting Heros

Not including football which sportsmen or women do you worship / admire / enjoy watching.etc.

For me its probably Roger Federer.

Also Dan Carter, Sam Tomkins but Federer just tips it.

Michael Schumacher off the top of my head! Not so much now but when he was in his pomp, I loved how driven the bloke was to win at all costs, even if it meant risking his own life by smashing his rivals off the track lol! Probably not a popular choice but I really admired his will to win. Also seen him on top gear and he seems a nice bloke away from formular 1

Not into bike riding but Lance Armstrong is another one I admire, the way he came back from being riddled with cancer to win all them tour de france contests takes some doing no doubt.

Danish Kaneria. Feel for him with the match-fixing rumours but I've met him and he's nice and friendly.

Donald Bradman and Rod Laver.

No, I'm not that old to have seen either, but from the films and the record books, they'd be the tops. :ayatollah:

Having said that, Polo, sorry I mean "Bluebird since 1948" may have seen both :old:

May want to re-think that with the current allegations against him :o :o :o

I think 'hero' is used too loosely nowadays. In my opinion there is no such think as a sporting hero, just people you may/may not admire for their talents.

Lance Armstrong 7 time tour de France winner. After beating aggressive cancer. Voted Americas greatest athlete. I am into road cycling, and wow the man was awesome. He competed in the most gruelling event on the sporting calendar,he has also raised 100s of millions with The Livestrong Cancer charity.also my other sportsman I admire is Oscar Pretourias. The disabled athlete. Heart of a Lion :ayatollah:

I was waiting for that splottblue lol. He has had allegations follow him for over ten years. Most tested ever athlete , never positive . The federal investigation I think will be not guilty. Did he dope who knows. Put it this way most of his nearest rivals did test positive. So if he did he was on a level playing field. To be honest I think most athletes take substances. Wales grand slam winners, did you have a look at their physical shape. You don't get bodies like that with double helpings of mummy's special mash potato. Armstrong had a testicle removed , three holes drilled into his skull to remove cancer, he also had multiple cancer lessions size of half golf ball on his lungs Truly a miracle 18 mths later won tour de France and then 6 more times in a row. He retired for 3 yrs then came 3rd at 38 yrs old. He was tested twice a day. :ayatollah:

I am not disputing his comeback from cancer truely remarkable, however from what I have read there are former team mates who are willing to testify against him, and has a fellow cancer survivor, I do hold him in high regard

. Great that you beat it too :ayatollah: The two former team mates Floyd Landis who tested positive after winning the TDF and was stripped of title has consistently been caught lying on his own case, has no credibility and is trying to promote his book and is a loon. Tyler Hamiliton is the other , Olympic gold medallist also stripped after coming clean. Him and Armstrong have a intense dislike for each other. To be honest without spending all night explaining the case, the outcome will go on for years. Whatever to me I will still have a high regard for the Boss from Austin Texas.

Johann Cruyff a footballing genius,Stephen Roche for winning 1987 tour de france for his sheer determination,Ian Woosnam for winning 1991 US Masters, and should of won The Open 2001 if it wasn't for his stupid caddy Myles Byrne having 15 clubs in the bag and penalising him 2 shots. Also Ian Woosnam because of the best golf swing i have ever seen think Rory Macilroys takes some beating now as well. Finally Seve Ballesteros for being such a good golfer at such a young age and taking the world by storm.A great character in the golfing world and was really choked up when they showed a documentry about him after he died.
