would be a poor signing, done alright last season did nothing more than fill in and play his part,we need more than that this season

I thought Lawrence did well once he was up to speed. A good influence in the squad and certainly worth a shot if the price is right.

I'd go for Huseklepp too, he was Pompey's best player against us at CCS :ayatollah:

He really did make a difference at the end of the season (Except in the playoffs)

We should be looking at better and on a reported 18k a week it's a no go for me.

wouldnt be a regular starter, but would be good to have in the squad as strength in depth...a hell of a lot better than taiwo as reserve lol

Re: "Cardiff’s Lawrence interest gives Pompey boost"

Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:53 pm

Surely we wouldn't want to pay more than around 8K per week, half tidy player though.

He was pretty good once he settled in at the end of last season. I'd take him on the cheap :)

Didnt do enough for me to warrant a perm deal on those sort of wages...

Re: "Cardiff’s Lawrence interest gives Pompey boost"

Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:04 pm

for 20k a week? No. Was good against Leeds, Boro and Barnsley but that was it.

I'd be happy with him.

If he had a full preseason with us I'd think he'd be a very good squad player.

Two year contract and 8k/week imo.

Liam Lawrence is still attracting interest from Cardiff to boost Pompey’s hopes of slashing their £9.5m wage bill.

And, according to Trevor Birch, Hayden Mullins also remains on Reading’s radar as he looks to ship out the club’s bigger earners.

If both were to go, that would be a big boost to Pompey, with the Blues needing to cut their wage bill to attract new owners and having to ship out at least two more players before they can bring anyone in.

Lawrence and Mullins both ended last season on loan to the Blues’ Championship rivals as the administrators sought to cut costs and bring in revenue.

Along with the loan exits of Erik Huseklepp and Stephen Henderson, that helped generate £690,000 in loan fees and a payroll net reduction of £205,000 per month.

Since then, Henderson has joined West Ham on a permanent basis, while a transfer embargo has prevented Birmingham following up any potential interest in Huseklepp. In addition, Birch insists there remains interest in both Lawrence and Mullins.

Lawrence made 15 appearances for the Bluebirds, establishing himself as a regular in midfield during their play-off bid and largely impressing.

As for Mullins, he played seven times as Reading clinched the Championship title on their way to promotion to the Premier League.

Pompey have yet to receive a bid for either player, who are among 10 players effectively put up for sale by the club as they look to drive down the wage bill.

But Birch insists the duo’s former loan clubs are continuing to monitor their availability.

He said: ‘There is talk about Liam and Hayden – although the clubs are not falling over themselves to do business.

‘However, there is interest there. As ever, we are just waiting for things to develop.

‘At this moment there is nothing concrete on either of them but Cardiff and Reading are watching things. That is all it is at the moment.

‘I am not speaking to the clubs myself, an agent is dealing with that.

‘As ever, it is still very early in the summer in terms of transfer market activity.’

Cardiff have targeted Lawrence and Brighton’s Craig Noone as candidates to solve their right-sided midfield problems.

Malky Mackay has money to spend and is keen to strengthen a squad he doesn’t believe is large enough.

Lawrence’s loan performances did his chances of a permanent move no harm.

Apart from playing on the right flank, he also displayed his versatility by playing in the centre of midfield."

Surely Craig Noone is old news? :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Sign him. I think that people are being a bit harsh on him, to say the least. I was chuffed we signed him in March and thought he'd do well with us and he did, though it did take a bit of time for him to settle in. It is worth noting that he had been injured before he came to us and needed a few games to get up to 'full-speed'. Unfortunately, we signed him near the end of the season when there weren't that many games left.

Why don't we raid league 1 and lower for a RW? Norwich did it in the prem and Morison and Smalling all played non league recently.

wont get 18k from us now it was only because of pompeys plight, fair play rules will stop higher wages eventually so if does come here it will be for less than last season

I f the club sign him, I WILL ASK FOR MY SEASON TICKET MONEY BACK !

One of the worst players ever to play for the club, can't tackle, can't cross, can't beat a man, can't shoot and his legs are gone !

some people are totally LOLable on here. stop being so fuckin depressing, of course malky is not going to sign him for anywhere near £18k a week, just cos hes on that money now doesn't mean hes going to be offered it again! remember he was part of the pompey setup that HAD wild money and threw it all down the shitter. we are hardly going to follow that example given what's just happened. will be more than happy to see him here on a decent deal and squad player. everybody knows he was injured/unfit when he arrived and took a while to settle in but decide to rate him as shit. :ayatollah:
