MR TAN

Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:07 am

IF,Mr Tan was hoping Premier League football would deliver a return on the £40m he has already reportedly pumped into the club, he may end up disappointed.

“My general view is if I was looking to make money I wouldn’t be doing it through football.

“I think people invest in football clubs for a variety of reasons and I would imagine making money is low down that list – ego, political image, increasing profile in different markets and that sort of thing are all part of the reasons.

“I’m not aware of any others [owners] that are focusing on Malaysia. Malaysia would be an interesting market but if you are going to have a Far East market, you would probably want China.” :ayatollah:

I agree. It is hard to see how a championship club is going to attract massive revenue from shirt sales when we don't sell that many in our own country. :ayatollah:

I just can't believe this is all about a few extra shirt sales.

If he isn't doing it for the money, what is he doing it for? He hadn't heard of Cardiff three years ago and I doubt before that he's been remotely interested in football.

QPR's owner Tony Fernandes is also Malaysian & owner of Air Asia & has already made big strides in putting the QPR brand into Malaysia with regards to soccer schools, pushing QPR shirts into Asian sportswear shops & doing it all in a very subtle way, teaching the Malaysians about the club & actively trying to get them on board.

We are also going to Malaysia for our pre season tour which will again push the brand as by all accounts a team from the best league in the world the Premier League coming to Malaysia is a massive massive thing for the people & will no doubt generate lots of media coverage & shirt sales in that region.

Fernandes is not stupid enough to think changing our colours will have a better effect than doing what he is already.

Still can't see what changing colours will do at all.

Stan I think VT has his eye on a new investor and with his connections in China he may be looking to attract someone from that country.

This was never about shirt sales in my opinion just about attracting someone who wants a Red train set and not a Blue one.

Really glad you stayed up mate and I think Sparky will see you alright next season.

Cheers Castle mate.

Still don't know how we managed to stay up but in our defence we beat Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal & of course the Jacks this season :D so in a way them results alone show we deserved to stay up, but on the whole we were shite.

I think your right about Sparky, really fancy him to push us on now with a full pre season under his belt & new players. Rob Green signing tomorrow by all accounts.
