BEN TURNER

Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:46 pm

Both West Ham and Southampton showing interest in signing him, lets hope the club can once again show some resolve and turn down any bids thrown our way, watch this space.

Surely we have to keep him, one of the best if not THE best central defender in the division :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

To go with how many times did he hoof it to nobody up to the other teams corner flags when theres two unmarked players within 10yards of him in a blue shirt to pass it to , i dont rate him that much or the other cart horse hudson although i thought hudson had his best season so far. :ayatollah:

Re: BEN TURNER

On a more sensible note, we'll be getting better offers than that. West Ham were ready to offer £3m before and he's done well since then. He won't go cheap . Considering he's only been with us 9 months I don't epect him to be in a rush to go.

Very good player, young, just over a serious injusry and one of the top centre halfs in the league last year.

Strong, very good in the air, reasonably quick, decent feet, unflustered and chips in with a few goals.

I didnt see a better centre half against us last year.

West Ham will be desperate as Faye is shite.

Re: BEN TURNER

Can't see the club selling anyone they want to keep unless the player kicks up a fuss.
Since the Malaysians took over have we sold anyone we wanted to keep?

We want Keogh because he can cover across the back four, Quinn and Naylor have gone so we need extra cover, Keinan and Gerrard are likely to go to so although i respect your opinion its possibly is the wrong one.

Re: BEN TURNER

Mon Jun 04, 2012 8:03 pm

anything over 2.5mill and i'd sell.

Think he's great for us but would like to see a footballing centre half here TBH. a player that can link with midfield and out wide to take some pressure off.
our ball retention is piss poor - we work twice as hard as most teams cos we give it away a lot.
The hoof doesnt work for us. If keogh can play on the ground then he could be more beneficial then even Turner has been.

Keogh won't be coming to play centre half.

If he was better than Turner wouldn't Southampton and est Ham be looking at hm for about 1/4 of the price instead.

Turner stood out the 1st moment I saw him play for Coventry, we won't replace him easily.

neither of our cbs are footballers, just no nosense defenders. while turner is decent, his distrbution is woeful and if closed down quickly just hoofs it anywhere...

Which in most cases is what he should be.

Leave the poncing about for the attacking players.

My honest opinion is thats what you need more so in the championship.

If the money does go to Ray Ranson why sell him?

We won't get any money from it

to a certain degree yes, but putting ourselves under pressure by giving stupid corners away by slicing clearences is not.. this happened far too many times last season.. 3 of our defenders cant pass water and that is a problem ..

Players who wanted to leave.
The point being we rarely sell unless we want to as the money or part of it goes to Ray Ranson.

Polo, if Malky isn't backed this summer I will agree with you

But clubs do struggle to get many players in Jan, as we seen with Brighton and Noone, they just don't want to sell at that moment in time

Whilst you also find that if your successful you pay over the odds for them

Totally agree, I think we got to keep him. He must have something for teams in the premier league wanting him, of course he makes the odd mistake but I also saw him save us on numerous occasions with some superb saving tackles. Anyone name better centrehalves in the Championship?

I was reffering to players who left mate ie Bothroyd and Burkey.

Luke is insinuating that under the malays players have only left on the clubs terms and thats not the case.

The lack of a football man in the club is a worry for me.

That wasn't meant to be my point.
The point I was trying to make is we haven't sold anyone we want to keep because the money would have gone to ray Ranson or some of it would have.
I'm just saying I don't think Turner will go unless he kicks up a fuss.

I would want 4m up front minimum with a decent sell on clause!

Who?

Ledley - We couldn't match wages and signing on fee with Celtic, plus he wasn't really worth that much.
Mathews - Similar to above, but I do wish we'd kept him.
Bothroyd - Argued MM didn't want him (although I did)
Burke - He was hot and cold regardless of nostalgia and if the club weren't willing to bust the waste budget on him I can see why.
Heaton - Was not gunna stay when the manager rated Marshall higher.

So maybe Matthews from a youth POV, Bothroyd because he's quality at this level.
