Cardiff Fight To Keep Malky!

Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:07 pm

Cardiff have issued a hands off warning over manager Malky Mackay in an attempt to prevent him from leaving for Norwich.
Norwich had been left without a manager after Paul Lambert resigned to join Aston Villa last week, and they are keen to appoint their former defender Mackay as his replacement.

Mackay has impressed in his debut season at the Cardiff City Stadium, and led the club to the Championship play-offs.
Yet Cardiff, who would request £1million compensation should Mackay be convinced to join Norwich, are determined to hold on to their manager.

A source at Cardiff told the Daily Star: (http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/vie ... m-Norwich/) 'Malky has four years left on his contract, so we will fight very hard to keep him.'
Mackay, who signed a long-term deal tying him to Cardiff until 2016, wants to guide the Welsh team to the Premier League.
However the former Norwich defender is seen as the ideal replacement at Carrow Road, and he tops the list above Celtic's Neil Lennon, Birmingham's Chris Hughton and Steve Bruce.

The former Watford manager spent six seasons at Norwich, and captained the side when they won promotion to the Premier League in 2004.

I tnink this story is just a re-hash of yesterday's story tbh, but I certainly hope that it still rings true!

Cardiff City's Malky Mackay does not fit Norwich City criteria
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay appears to be out of contention for the Norwich City job.

That was after Norwich chief executive David McNally revealed the club are looking for a manager with "top-league" experience.

The Canaries are searching for a new manager after Paul Lambert left for Aston Villa last week.

"We are looking for somebody who has got top-league experience," McNally told the Eastern Daily Press.

"I don't think the candidate necessarily has to have Premier League experience - but they have to have top-league experience.

"The search is certainly a European search.

"If, for example, you have managed in Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga, they are some of the toughest leagues in the world too.

"So why on earth if there is a candidate in one of those leagues who was available and we felt was right for us should we say no to them just because they haven't managed in the Premier League?"

Mackay, who played 212 times for Norwich City between 1998 and 2004, took Cardiff City to the Championship play-offs in his first season at the club.

The 40-year-old Scot received praise for guiding Cardiff City to the play-offs where they lost 5-0 on aggregate to West Ham United in a two-legged semi-final.

Cardiff City said last week they have had no approach from Norwich to speak to the Scot.
