The 6ft 4ins Lewis – who joined recently on a free transfer from Peterborough United – knows South Wales a little and says: “It looks a great place to live.
“A few mates have studied at Cardiff University and I first came to the city when I was 12.
“I remember coming to the Millennium Stadium as a kid when Norwich played Birmingham in a play-off final.
“It was a great day and it’s funny I’m back here now as a Cardiff City player.
“I can’t wait to start working with the squad when pre-season starts in a few weeks, but, right now, I am house-hunting with my girlfriend.”
The departure of Carling Cup hero Tom Heaton – who has been strongly linked with a move across the Severn Bridge to Bristol City – opened the door for 24-year-old Lewis to join the Bluebirds.
But he must oust Marshall, a former Norwich team-mate, to get the No.1 spot – and the Scot recently signed a three-year contract.
“I know David well from our days at Norwich and I hope we can push each other,” said former England Under-21 cap Lewis, who also knows goalkeeping coach James Hollman.
“He was a big influence on me when I was younger and really brought on my game.”
When he started training with the Canaries’ first-team squad at the age of 16, Lewis also worked alongside Bluebirds boss Mackay, then an imposing centre-half.
“You could not miss Malky the way he went about things, you just knew he was going to go on and become a coach and manager,” said Lewis.
During Lewis' four-year stay with Peterborough he experienced three promotions and one relegation.
“We were promoted twice, went down and then back up again,” he said.
“I didn’t play in the same division for two consecutive seasons.
“Now I’m focused on my Cardiff future and our target is clear.
“We all want promotion and we’ll give it everything we’ve got to do it.
“Cardiff is a big club with big ambition and they are two of the reasons I have signed.
“It’s a big challenge for me, but I can’t wait to get started.
“Last season was far from my best because of injuries and it wasn’t the same at Peterborough after I decided to move on.
“But I’m fired up and ready for my fresh challenge.”
