Welsh Language

Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:23 pm

Horrid outdated language, should be banished to the history books.

Amount of money wasted printing dual-language books, signs, forms,letters.etc.etc for a stupid tiny anal minority is ridiculous.

Should pack them all off to Angelsey and let them be bitter together,

Re: Welsh Language

I don't think it should be scrapped due to the history of the language. HOWEVER, I agree, theres much more important issues at the moment, the economy being the main one!

Re: Welsh Language

Its up to individual decisions. wish i could speak it but i have enough trouble with English Dioch

Re: Welsh Language

Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:47 pm

I don't get how some of our fans want to be Welsh and not British, yet they hate the welsh language and refuse to learn it. It's part of our heritage. Yes they could spend the money that they use on signs for dual language's on other things but to scrap it is ridiculous.

Re: Welsh Language

Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:49 pm

I agree. They need to stop teaching it in schools, by teaching it to kids who speak English isn't going to help keep the language alive, it seems rather pointless. There's only a small minority of people in Wales who speak Welsh as their first language these days.

Why stop teaching it in schools? I learnt the language solely in school.

They should teach it to people who WANT to learn the language, I've had to go through school having to learn the basics without having a choice... there's only a very small amount of people in South Wales who speak Welsh.

It's the same with many other subjects, they teach the basics up until GCSE and then you can choose whether or not you want to carry on. A fair enough principle.

I had to do Welsh GCSE without a choice, a lot of schools where my friends went to had to as well

There is no reason as to why we shouldn't be bilingual. Its the mongs who want us to speak Welsh only that bug me. We should preserve our linguistic heritage but not at the expense of speaking other languages.

And even that inst so bad compared to the sheer animosity towards England, which is petty and embarrassing..

I agree with you for a change. The only animosity towards England is football wise.

Over 50 % of Carmarthenshire & Ceredigion speak Welsh, over 25 % in Pembrokeshire.

That's quite a large minority.

What about Wales on a whole? And isn't West, North Wales the main Welsh speaking areas?

All the statistics are on the above link.

And yeah, North West Wales is. Most young people up there converse in Welsh as their first language.

That is consideranly suprising. However, I still stand by what I said in saying the economy HAS to come first before the Welsh language.
