A statement issued by Newport RFC and the Dragons said: “Following several weeks of negotiation, agreement has been reached between Newport County and Newport RFC for the football team to play at Rodney Parade this coming season.

“The contracts have been sent to the Football Conference for approval. “

Rodney Parade Ltd chief executive Chris Brown said: “We are obviously delighted that we have been able to reach agreement and that football is coming to Rodney Parade.

"One of the keys to our business plan is ensuring that we generate the maximum revenue from non-rugby match days and bringing in the football goes a long way to helping us achieve that.

"Whilst Newport County play many more matches than either the Dragons or Newport, they play a significant number of midweek fixtures and, with the football season starting a month before the rugby, fixture congestion will be kept to a minimum.

"This has been a complex negotiation and it has been of paramount importance to us that the needs of the Dragons and Newport RFC are met.

"Although there will not be a joint football/rugby season ticket for this season, there will be a discount offered for supporters purchasing season tickets for both rugby and football.

“We would like to thank the supporters of the Dragons and Newport RFC for their patience whilst this proposal has been under discussion as well as the Welsh Rugby Union, who have been very supportive in helping us make this happen,” added Brown.

It will all end in tears :( Football and egg just do not mix

Had to be done for the sake of progression. We could never get any higher than the Conference at Spytty Park. I think we can add 400/500 on the gate initially at RP as it's right in the middle of town. Win a few games and it could snowball. Of course, the risk is that we have another crap season and the same 1,400 turn up every week.

The people of Newport like their drink more than they like their football as you know, so being in town should help.

Luton at home should be interesting down Maindee next season. LOL. Can't wait.

I do, but was thinking more of the late 80s. 87/88 was it? Remember Paul Wimbledon lobbing the keeper. Think we won 2-1. My memory is not what it was :old: They were good games, though. :ayatollah: When I started following CCFC, there were four Welsh clubs in the league. Hopefully, we can get back to that.

Fingers crossed! The ground move had to happen. Just hope it's the start of something and not the end. Best case scenario is an FA Cup 3rd round draw at home to Cardiff ;) Doubt we'd make much money mind.

To me Newport v Cardiff was bigger than Swansea v Cardiff in the 80's, as I thought of u as our main rivals with Bristol C, to me Swansea were a joke.

Your right Annis back then County had a hell of a team with the likes of John Aldridge, Nigel Vaughan, Terry Boyle, Mark Kendall and Steve Loundes just to name a few.

I can remember some great games between us.

There was a season in the 1980's when Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bristol Rovers and Bristol City all played in the old Division 3 (League 1 now)
