The program you need to jailbreak your device is called Absynthe 2.0.4 and can be downloaded from here:
[Windows Version] -
[Mac Version]What does untethered mean? - Well it simply means that the phone operates as normal where hackers have completely cracked the tethered version of the jailbreak where if users lost power to their phones for what ever reason, they would have needed to plug the iphone into the computer to reboot it. This is now, not the case! The iPhone will operate as normal with the latest software!
OK, so I've downloaded the above program - what do I do now?
Simple, once it's downloaded to the designated file you save your downloads in, double click the file, and Extract it, leave the box checked that says "View after extraction"
Once that has extracted you should be able to see the green "greenpoison" logo icon - click that to run the program. A box will open up that has the word "Jailbreak" greyed out - ready to click. Well, once you have connected your iphone or other compatible idevice to your computer, it will un-grey - and you will now be able to click the "Jailbreak" button.
This is one of the simplest jailbreak processes I can remember - It's all just a
ONE-CLICK jailbreak. all you do is wait whilst the sytem jailbreaks your device - you will notice a series of reboots on your phone during your process - this is normal.
NOTE: there is a point along the jailbreak where the progress bar seems to pause and freeze for a minute or two, This is normal as well - so please do not disconnect your device during the process!
BE PATIENT! It will inform you when the jailbreak process is complete - you can then disconnect your device, and you will notice then - that a
brown CYDIA package icon app on your homes screen! BINGO! you now have a jailbroken iPhone or device on iOS 5.1.1 which is fully
untethered!
NOTE: ALWAYS make a backup of your iphone before updating to iOS 5.1.1 - I prefer to backup directly from my iPhone using iCloud, but that's up to you if you prefer to back up to your PC with iTunes.
If you are already running a jailbroken iDevice on another version of iOS, then you can backup your device, update to 5.1.1 then - restore from the backup to re-set all your previous settings. (although the Jailbreak tweaks will all be wiped off when updating to 5.1.1 the settings for those tweaks will not! - so as you re-install all your favourite JB tweaks using this new method, you will find that the settings already saved will revert all the new installed JB tweaks back to their original settings!)
Any questions - Just ask.
