Keogh: Coventry hope to agree a new contract with defender

" CARDIFF FAIL IN RICHARD KEOGH BID "

Coventry City have rejected an offer from Cardiff City for Richard Keogh and are continuing discussions regarding a new contract for the defender.

Following Coventry's relegation from the Championship, Keogh is attracting interest and the club have already rejected a 'derisory' bid from Bristol City.

Cardiff have now made a move for the centre-half, but a reported £800,000 offer has been snubbed as rival clubs monitor the situation.

"We have had a written offer from Cardiff, as we did from Bristol City last week, and phone calls from a couple of other clubs in the Championship inquiring about Richard's availability and what our thoughts are on the matter," the Sky Blues' development director Steve Waggott told the Coventry Telegraph.

"I have said to them that at the moment we are in contractual discussions with him and his agent regarding extending his contract and keeping him at Coventry.

"Our thoughts are to see where we can get to from a Coventry perspective because we would love him - subject to the manager's discussions with him - to take on the captaincy and lead the team back to the Championship.

"That's where we are at the moment but there may be a different discussion if a club of a higher league status comes in for him."

I Can see this type of thing summing up our whole summer transfer window I'm afraid!! Lots of bids being made only to be turned down one after another and the players we bid for ending up going to other clubs who show more interest by coming in with better bids. We may get lucky with a few free transfers.

OF A HIGHER LEAGUE STATUS

do they actually think a Premier League side is going to come in for him  I was suprised we went in for him never mind anyone "higher", he's just an average Championship player imo but would good to have back up if Gerrard and Keinan leaves which looks likley

lol, i laughed at that line aswell
if he wants to stay in league 1 with coventry then thats fine would show a distinct lack of ambition or maybe the lad knows his level
coventry fans dont see keogh has a world beater themselves si i hardly doubt any better offers will come in

To be fair to them, that line is a perfect marketing tool to get the most money possible. It implies that he's worth far more that we're offering. I wouldn't up the actual bid but I'd consider add-ons

15% of 800k (120k) in his pocket as he has not put in a transfer request Cardiff offering more than his present salary and the opportunity of playing for a team who will be vying for promotion next season to the Premiership ?.
keep calm it's a no brainer he will be on his way ,Personally i dont think Cardiff have gone up to the 800k yet and have just put an appitiser of a bid in and Coventry are just testing the waters my opinion is he will sign and will be a very good addition. :)

How is he dreaming... this is a realistic bid for a player who may actually want to come to us because we are going to go all out for a promotion push next season in my opinion i mean why wouldn't we.

You make a fair point there and I agree with the add-ons if Malky wants his man I believe he should tries his hardest to get him. :ayatollah:

He'll leave Coventry NQAT. Just tactics to extract as much cash from the bidders.

BTW is he any good as its unlikely he'll sign a contract to play 3rd tier football :?:

How do you know this yet again another made up situation. We don't know anything which goes on behind the scenes for all you know we may have a couple of million to spend or nothing like TGIRobinFriday said we may have gone in for with a smaller bid than the reported of £800,000 and tested the water we don't a second bid may happen it may not.
