Peter Whittingham to Swansea City?

Mon May 28, 2012 4:23 pm

There's strong rumours down this way that our board are considering an offer for Whittingham as a bench replacement for Sigurdsson as it looks like Stephen Dobbie will be on his way and we'll be needing another central attacking midfielder.

How much do you think it'd take to prize him away from you in all honesty? ... I'm aware that Malky is desperate to keep him, when's he out of contract?

Thanks in advance for any sensible responses!

Yeah I don't think it'll happen either.

How much do you think the Bluebirds value him at?

They haven't quoted a value, which club in their right mind would quote a value.

Yeah fair point ... As a fan how much do you think he's worth? I doubt our board would be prepared to go above 3 million, and at that price I doubt you'd consider selling him.

The club are not overally keen on selling as part or the money goes to a debt of Ray Ranson anyway.

the bit in red tickled me, why would he go to another team to warm the bench
can't see Whittingham ever going to Swansea to be honest but that's just my opinion.

Football's a squad game nowadays, with cup games, etc, he'd get a lot of playing time.

Right nevermind, I'm off now, enjoy the rest of your day fellas. ;)

P.s - All the best next season, with Malky in charge I fancy you for promotion, top manager.

Could happen, there has always been players who have both played for Cardiff and Swansea; the likes of Toshock and Legg and more recent Feeney (Loan) and Mark Howard (Loan).

But from my point of view cant see it happenning, mainly because Malky sees Whitts as a key player for us, and there is no need for us to sell our best players. Howeve, if an offer came which was difficult to refuse, then yes we could sell, and it would have to be a very good offer.

I believe Malky and the club could refuse a £5m offer, but could be tempted with £7.5m +.

I don't think he'll move at all this summer, let alone to the jacks!

In all seriousness though, I reckon he's worth at least £5m, on the basis of his performances/statistics (13 goals and 13 assists last season) over the last couple of seasons.

Rodriguez out of contract end of next season, refusing to sign new deal.

No f*cking shit they are quoting a value, want him sold before getting zero.

Which is the whole f*cking point, teams only name a value when they either want rid of a player or the player will wind contract down.

7.5 jesus christ are you insane !

we're only paying 6.8 for a 22 yr old who has proved he can do it in the prem

Re: Peter Whittingham to Swansea City?

Can't see it happening, and if it did, I wouldn't expect them to accept anything less than £5m.

Do know this, though - Whittingham won't leave for the Premier League just to warm the Liberty Stadium bench.

Sure, he deserves more time in the Premier League, but he's a settled Bluebird - and I hope that's how it stays.

I dont think Jay Rodriguez is worth 6.8 million, the problem is every club have inflated the price of players. I believe at the moement Whitts is worth 7 million.....but like any club, we would try and hold out for more.

In my opinion Jay Rodriquez is at most worth 3-4 million, considering hes on last year of his contract.

Re: Peter Whittingham to Swansea City?

Any valuation above £5 million is overly ambitious in my opinion.

They won't get zero though because he will still be under 24. So they will only get training compensation if he goes abroad but it will go to a tribunal if he wants to go to an English club at the end of next season and the clubs can't agree a fee.

In terms of Whitts' value. I honestly don't think the board will sell anyone if recent years are anything to go by. The Ranson debt seems to be such a block on transfer activity that they would prefer to let players contracts run down than sell them. So add at least 2.5m to any reasonable offer before they would even think about it, so I'd suggest 6m as an opening bid.

Weve turned down plenty of offers from more established premiership teams
i honestly dont think pete will be too impressed with the 8k a week wages your board offer anyways

Re: Peter Whittingham to Swansea City?

The truth is that if we wanted him we would get him!
There is no point in saying no chance because we have so much more to offer him.
But saying that he would only be a bench player and thats about it.

Re: Peter Whittingham to Swansea City?

Mon May 28, 2012 7:14 pm

That applies to every player at every club except the very top few. And no you're not one of them

8K a week? Where are you getting that from mate?

A bench warmer when your main player is Joe Allen

If they totally banned back passes to the keeper he would have to get his old job back as a ball boy- useless.

1) Yes he'd be a bench warmer, Gylfi Sigurdsson at 22 years of age has done far more in his career than Whittingham ever has, are you insinuating he's a better player than Sigurdsson?

2) He's not our "main player"

3) He's better than any holding midfielder at Cardiff by a country mile.

4) Do you understand football? His role is that to close opposition players down, put the tackles in, win the ball back and lay off a simple pass to either Britton or our creative player(s), a job he does very effectively, just 22 years old and getting better all the time.
