Today Is The Anniversay Of An Important Day In Our History

Sun May 27, 2012 11:55 am

The 27th May wouldn't really spark memories for most Bluebird fans afterall we didn't win anything but nevertheless the 27th May 2010 was a vital day in our history, a day which thankfully allowed us to look forward to a future whatever that future would be.

5 days after losing the playoff final against Blackpool at Wembley a General Meeting was held at CCS to approve the £6m investment by VT & TG that would allow the club to settle it's outstanding tax bill with HMRC. In the immediate aftermath of losing the final many were saying that VT & TG would cut and run, that they were only here because of the possibility of a short cut to the Premier League and that they wouldn't have the appetite to take on a club heavily in debt and at risk of being wound up in the High Court. But thankfully VT & TG were as good as thier word and made the investment that secured our immediate future.

On the day TG addressed the meeting and said " Cardiff City is a Welsh insititution that is now representing two nations, and there is quite a journey ahead of us". He also said he was "deeply priviledged "to be Chairman of Cardiff City Football Club.

He closed by saying "We must not forget that Cardiff City is a business and needs to be operating within sensible financial guidelines. He said that he and the rest of the board will therefore be involved in plenty of strategic planning during the weeks and months ahead."

Since then VT & TG have continued to provide financial support, to the extent of £1m per month, but still some doubt their commitment. Why?

Two years on VT & TG have developed plans that will leave our club virtually debt free, with a new training ground that the club own, the development of an additional 8,000 seats in the stadium and the rebranding of the club to involve the possible change of first team colours and club badge.

Unfortunately these plans were leaked and since then we have had an almost none stop tirade of disinformation about the intentions of the major investors in our club. Even today there are posts regarding the renaming of our club, and yet on the 10th May TG wrote an open letter to all fans stating " I can categorically state there were never any plans to rename the club. Cardiff City Football club has a rich history, which we are honoured to celebrate and share"

In my opinion TG is a man of honour, integrity and dignity and when he says there have never been plans to rename our club I believe him. Why on earth others still feel the need to doubt his word I will never understand.

But whatever your views about the possible rebranding today I ask you to think back two years and remember how you were feeling, and how much to have enjoyed the last two years and ask yourself " Without VT & TG where would we be now"

The ask yourself where you want to be in two years time and are we more or less likely to be there without VT & TG.?

Today I send a sincere thank you to VT & TG for everything they have done todate for the club I love and I look forward to the future under your professional leadership.

can't believe what these malysians want to do for us by way of ridding us of our debt and yet ask for very little in return, ok maybe a change colour to our shirts and a badge change, still very little for us to undertake is it. crack on i say. excellent post well said. :ayatollah:

What you consider as a little change is a big change to others.

Great post Castle and one I absolutely agree with. TBH I think the anti-red brigade have lost the argument and that's why they are now resorting to the sympathy posts (claiming they are being shouted down ffs  ) and introducing rubbish about the club changing its name to influence the argument by a fear factor.

This forum did wonders in organising a protest march against Peter Ridsdale and bringing the Malaysians onboard in the first place, but this time they are not going to get the backing of the vast majority of fans against the board/potential new owners because those with the slightest understanding of the consequences of losing this opportunity have wisely made up their minds to back VT/TG.

I would urge those who are stuck in the past to wake up and see just how close we are to greatness and a secure future otherwise they will get their wish of playing non-league football in a blue kit.

I think your right in what you say, but not to the majority. It seems most see it as little change, in respect of what we are gaining.

Superb post of which I fully agree with. The malaysians aren't wealthy by chance, they are great businessmen. They know full well that a side without debt and freedom to strengthen with the right backing can make them a fortune. If they are still with us, it means they believe they can make us a profitable business that will net them a fortune and open up other business opportunities for them in this country which they may not be able to do without showing that they can be successful in this country too. I for one think they will do us proud on the field and off it.

I am not sure people are doubting their commitment at all,i think you are twisting things,,,most people want them on board and welcome the investment, what people are trying to understand is ..........

How taking the Bluebird off the shirt and changing our home colours to Red is going to all of a sudden propel us to the premiership?

The jacks,Reading and every other team who got there didn't need to do it,they did it buying good quality players who fit into their style of football and employing managers and staff who can lead, they didn't spend huge amounts of money so why do we need to change.Once these questions are answered we can move on.
P.S Can anyone tell me why we have all been left hanging after the big meeting?

Sorry Dazz but I'm twisting nothing I completely understand that they were proposing to change shirt colour, and in my opinion that may still happen, but the point I was making is that there are still posts today suggesting the name of the club would change.

TG has made it clear that was NEVER a consideration so whatever your views on the rest for me it devalues the debate when people include reference to changing the name of our club, because it just isn't going to happen. Why? because I truely believe that to ALL fans Cardiff City FC is sacrosanct and it not up for debate.

I'm only saying keep the debate real Dazz.

I for one do not believe they have any intentions of changing the name but I am also a realist and believe once you give license to change the badge and colours you are allowing them the to make what I feel are unnecessary changes to our club and permission to do what they want in the future. Can you or anyone answer any of the questions from my previous post as nobody on the red side of the argument has managed this since it all began. :ayatollah:

Dazz I'm not on the Red side of the arguement although I am prepared to hear TG & VT out on thier proposals and not dismiss them out of hand. I would also say I would probably accept the Red shirt if as I believe the reason is marketing based and not because VT thinks red is a lucky colour. Again for me that is bollocks but that has and still is being said.

I just cannot believe that there will EVER be any proposal to change the club name and we should have more faith in these guys because believe me they have more sense than to try and change the name of our club.

Trust me it will never happen.

A very positive post and good to read, people of honour are very few and far between and I wholeheartedly agree, since T G and V T came on board they behaved implacably, by stabilising our club, which was spiralling into financial meltdown and into obvious oblivion. So they get my thanks to stepping up to the mark.

Brilliant post and so very true . Our history can't be changed , our name can't be changed . But our future must be safeguarded . If it means badge and colour change , then so be it .

Thanks to all who read and commented on the thread. I just hope in 12 months time we can celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of TG & VT getting involved with our club.

Also by then they will be owners of the club, 100% owners if possible, and we are on our way to a secure financial future whatever colour shirt we are wearing.

But we are and always will be Cardiff City AFC - The Bluebirds and that must NEVER change.
