Boxing : Carl Froch

Sat May 26, 2012 11:54 pm

Tonight......what a decking performance! And, not actually liking the fella, I enjoyed this and realised that all his fights seemed to be as gutsy.

The Froch Calzaghe argument is bound to resurface.........what's your thoughts? Did Joe give as much as Froch has?.......And, who'd you think would win over 2 fights....home and away.

For me, Calzaghe was streets ahead in boxing class and would wipe the floor with him at home. But, there has to be a reason he didn't want the Frocj fight, maybe an 'away day' would have been too much for Joe?

Joe in his prime would humiliate Froch.

outstanding performance from froch, fair play to the guy he never has an easy fight and genuinely only wants to fight the best out there.
calzaghes style would have been all wrong for him though, joe would never have been caught by them heavy hands and would have probably won fairly easy on points

What about the amount they'ce both put in?

I'm nowhere near being a big fan of Froch but, I would have loved seeing Joe take the kind of big fights he has had. Some of the guys Joe fought were borderline jokers. Remember the yank who was a contender runner up. Come on, could you see Froch taking a bum fight like that?

These boxers always talk about their 'legacy'. Always makes me cringe when I hear it. Who's going to leave more to look back on between the two?

Hope this doesn't read like I'm putting a downer on Calzaghe, just really interested in how Frochs career now compares.

Agree with you on that, especially if Froch gets a few defence wins under his new belt.

Froch is as tough as teak but he'd struggle to lay a glove on Calzaghe.Bute was made for Froch last night as he came forward.Calzaghe would have been far more savvy and although a southpaw like Bute would have confused Froch no end with his stick and move tactics. If Calzaghe had Froch's heart and desire then he'd have been one of the all time greats, instead he'll be known as a very good champion.

I said before the fight on here that Bute was out of his depth, and so it proved.

Top post, agree with every word.

The only fighter Calzaghe fought in his prime was Kessler (Lacy turned out to be all hype and RJJ and BHop were past their best)

BUT Calzaghe beat Kessler quite comfortably in the end, whereas Froch lost a tight decision to him.

I hate the Roy jones Jr and BERNARD Hopkins were past their best argument! Calzaghes last fights were VS THEM .... was calzaghe past his best? Yes i believe he was too its not calzaghes fault they both stayed in the game long after him getting embarassed (especially jones jr) hopkins is a bit different because hes gave it a good go the last few years still so even that destroys your argument.. Calzaghe overated but i hate people using that against him.. Then froch waited untill he was more or less retired and called him out if he beat joe would we be saying he beat joe when he was past his best?

Never liked Froch,he is slow and bores me every time I can bear to watch him,I thought it was a joke when he called Joe to fight him,no wonder Joe just ignored him, boxing fans will know Froch was an average championship fighter at best,Joe would have outclassed him every round and still would. The fight won't happen. :ayatollah:

People are forgetting joe was a young champ and he remained champ till he retired.

Froch was 30 when he won his title.
Spent all his early career beating domestics and euros constantly calling for joe to fight.

His last few fights have been impressive yes but the two best fighters he fought he lost to, and one of them joe beat quite comfortably over 12.

i hate that argument that, kessler n ward were the only best fighters he fought and lost.

jermain taylor, abraham, pascal, dirrell(he did get lucky to be fair) hes beat quality oppostition
more than calazaghe can say. dont get me wrong big fan of joe but to me froch have been in the lions den more often than joe

Good points but, that Roy Jones fight was embarrassing in the build. Up and even more embarrassing to watch.

Again, not wanting to sound like I'm putting a downer on Calzaghe. I agree that he's a level above Froch in skills.

But........surely you would have liked to see him in more big fights. There's not many fights he went into where you'd think it would be a close call to make before the fight. Kessler being one of them. Can you think of many others?

Foch boxed a bum champ who hadn't really fought anyone world class . As for joe he wanted to fight the best but the best didn't want to fight joe untill they were at the end of there careers ie Hopkins. Jones jnr joe boxed everyone out there who wanted a shot apart from a big mouthed knobhead called Carl Froch

Re: Boxing : Carl Froch

Joe was avoided by a lot of top fighters.

Collins retired because he didn't fancy it and was left frustrated by Jones Jnr.
Hopkins had verbally agreed but the withdrew, as did Jones Jnr before moving up in weight.
Ottke didn't want it despite Joe willing to travel.

Omar Shieka was well thought of in US and Byron Mitchell was a game opponent.

Jeff Lacy was demolishing all before him, He hammered Scott Pemberton and Robin Reid before coming over and threatening to end Slappy Joes Career. Jeff was massively hyped and Joe wasn't given a chance by bookies or pundits either side of the Atlantic.
What happend That night was (at the time) the most one sided and greeted performance by any boxer let alone a british boxer,
And what followed was a degrading belitlement of Joe accomplishment.
From critics on both sides again.

Jermain Taylor was operating at middleweight and didn't want to move up.
Whilst Tarver was so in awe of himself he believed he didn't need to face a unbeaten southpaw.

All the while Carl Froch fought Domestics and called out Joe.

I place most of the blame on a certain Frank Warren as to why Joe never got main stream in US.
Face it Hatton Kahn and Joe have all made more money and topped headline bills in Vegas and MSG
Since parting his company.

Since the 90s we have been blessed with world class operators like Benn Watson Eubanks Collins Lewis Naz Joe Froch Amir and the Hitman to name a few.
So instead of bickering over who did or didn't do what why not just appreciate what we have had and still have.
