The magnitude of Malky's first season job was clearly seen here.

Not necessarily, when you consider Southampton were promoted.

Southampton have a massive budget. Their wages are on par with Leicester and West Ham's. Id bet that all theirbplayers were good enough for any chpionship side. Not aure i can say the same about ours.

i dont see a problem with using 28 players in one season. Infact it seems like quite a lot.

However, how many minutes did the majority of players (Cowie, Witts, Marshall, Taylor, Gunnersson etc) play?

The difference is Southampton didn't have many injuries/suspensions and they had a settled team who were winning games. Plus they didn't get to the league cup final, our 28 players played a lot more games and spent a lot more minutes on the pitch than Southampton's 28 players.

The Football League figure of 28 players used includes all players named in the match day squad but it takes no account of any players who don't actually enter the field of play.

Last season we had 3 players Parkin, Parish and Harris who whilst being named as subs never actually entered the field of play. Add to that three players Quinn, Keinan and Taiwo played 22minutes, 30 seconds and 6 minutes respectively it reduces our squad down to only 22 players. Also Heaton, Naylor and Vuckic only played 134 minutes, 180 minutes and 184 minutes respectively and it tells you we basically used a core of 19 players.

Southampton actually used a core of 23 players and when compared with our squad our players we had 4 players over 3740 minutes, Southampton had 1.

In my opinion Malkay Mackay did a brilliant job with the squad he had available and by the time the new season comes around I really believe we will have a stronger squad.

Can't wait. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I agree, the number isn't the problem but the quality.
