Death of Football

Thu May 24, 2012 6:02 pm

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18190250

This is the end.. beautiful friend.. the end..

In 10 years time when games take twice and long and have ad breaks every 3 minutes because everything is double checked and appealed on video replays, look back on today and see where it all began to go wrong. There will be a tech onslaught. It'll end up like rugby with refs with no bollocks and a dull tedious event will take the place of yelling at a ref, a defining feature of football.

Obviously there are plus sides but mainly, we are now on a slippery slope

DEATH OF FOOTBALL

Because we are now on a slippery slope and the game will end up like rugby with more and more tech phased in

yes a that will be good thing stop cheating diving ect. i think pen decisions should be reviewed when someone suggested it to fifa a couple of years go they said no because it would show just how much cheating goe's on in football and anyway considering how long it took to get to this point it'll probably take another 60 years untill something new come s in

It won't. They have cracked.

The best option is a chip in the ball and the ref just resets it after every contentious decision. And it won't be a good thing. The game will lose it's flow and become robotic. That will remove a lot of the tempo and excitement building up. Players need to be hounded out of the game for cheating, mocked at every opportunity, abused, all in the name of cheat prevention

all ends justify the means

irrelevant really in honesty, shouldn't have mentioned it and it has no bearing on football

look at all the whining in football over disputes. It will be a nightmare, tech will be demanded for everything

Dont be silly. Every sport this technology has gone into has improved it and nigh on 99% of fans and players agree that they didnt know how they coped without it.

Tennis being a main example, the amount of wrong decisions overruled by hawkeye was incredible and games were often won and lost on mistaken linecalls rather than the ability of the sportmen and women. They are allowed 3 failed challenges per set, it takes a few seconds and adds to the drama. Same with Rugby League and Union, both majorly improved the game with regards to try scoring decisions.

NONE of these sports have developed on to stopping the game for everything so why you think football is any different is baffling. Im all for it, the amount of blatant goals not given is a joke. Put the outcome of matches back in the players hands and not in the officials whistle. :ayatollah:

Re: Death of Football

It doesn't matter what other sports are like. Football is totally different with far more contentious decisions. The FA and UEFA are spineless. Clubs will suffer a problem thorugh an are not covered by tech and force through new tech

Sorry but the comparisons don't work, refs always moan about how hard it is, they will want tech for everything

No chance. 10 years down the line, we'll see. You are the one making silly comparisons to other sports than don;t take into account the unique factors in football.

Slippery slope. I will say it again. Look at the changes to football that have already happened

This is what fans of every sport say as a last gasp to ward off progess.

Over here Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, and American Football have all improved with technology, and every time something new was implemented "the sport was coming to an end".

As long as the video ref don't take fekin ages to make a decision like them pratts do in rugby union with there 5minutes of rewind'forward'rewind'forward bollox then I'm for it :ayatollah: only thing that will be missed is the WAS'IT WASN'T'IT debates and arguments by footie fans up and down the country that happen after every controversial decision I spose lol

Re: Death of Football

There's another option - ban slow motion replays on the giant screens in the grounds and on TV.

At the moment we are unfairly crucifying refs (and assistants) who only have a split second to see an incident from one angle by constantly replaying and analysing the incidents. As a result even the best officials get it wrong or are unsighted and get slaughtered by people able to constantly review them.

So either give the officials the technology or stop letting critics having it!

Either way technology will not sort out the diving cheats - when you are running at pace sometimes you can shrug off a robust challenge because of a combination of your point of balance, the angle of contact and point of contact. Other times even a slight touch can genuinely cause you to fall over.

Apart from really blatant incidents where it can be shown the other player did not touch the diver, technology is useless. The side with the ball will always believe their player was unfairly impeded and the defender's team will believe the other player fell over needlessly.

It only takes ages in rugby because the ball is often hidden underneath players. With football its either over the line or not.
