" CARDIFF BID £5.5mln FOR RODRIGUEZ "

Wed May 23, 2012 12:41 pm

Cardiff City are making an amazing record £5.5 million bid for Burnley’s brilliant young striker Jay Rodriguez.

Malky Mackay’s owners are backing him with cash to win promotion and the England under-21 prospect is their top target - and available for the right price.

Rodriguez has been watched by a handful of Premier League clubs and the Clarets may cash in as he is entering the last year of his contract.

However Cardiff have surprisingly jumped to the head of the queue and will pay more than their rivals for Rodriguez who could shoot them to the Premier League.

It is the biggest transfer move the Bluebirds have made since landing Craig Bellamy on loan from Manchester City - and Mackay has been told it will not be the only capture if he can pull it off.

Burnley want £8 million for Rodriguez, a fee that has scared off all of the interested parties so far. But Cardiff hope their offer will be accepted.

Then Mackay will have to talk Rodriguez into joining them and staying in the Championship, but they are willing to try.

Home-grown Rodriguez is Burnley’s biggest asset and the Lancashire club also need to know his future and what they are getting for him if he is leaving.

Burnley have said they wanted £8mil, so I can't imagine us paying that unless the Malaysians are just going to give Malky an absolute load of money to spend!

I am shocked we have put in a £5.5 mil bid, if this article is to be believed. Rodriguez would be a quality signing! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

The lancashire Telegraph reporting Everton are interested BUT must sell to finance the deal. This is our chance to get in there.

Get in there Malkay. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I would be buzzing with the backing by the Malaysians to Malky if they let us bid £3m for a player, but £5.5 mil is a serious statement of intent to rest of the division if true! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I had been told they would go for him, but I was told £3 mill max. That fee is totally exaggerated in my opinion.

If we really have that much money to spend, bring back Bellamy in my opinion. :ayatollah:

Sorry way to much for one player considering he is on last year of his contract, as much as I like Jay Rodriguez, a No Go for me at that price.

We should be saving the pounds, we could get 2-3 quality players for that price.

Wales on line now

Cardiff City to make £5.5m bid for Burnley star Jay Rodriguez

WalesOnlineMay 23 2012

Jay Rodriguez has emerged as Cardiff City's top summer target
Cardiff City are thought to be planning a £5.5m move for Burnley's highly rated striker Jay Rodriguez.

WalesOnline's sister website Mirror Football today revealed that manager Malky Mackay is planning the big money raid on the Turf Moor outfit after the Bluebirds' Malaysian owners backed him to make the bid.

England under-21 prospect is understood to be available at around that price and Mackay would have to act fast to fend off a ring of Premier League clubs tracking the star who is approaching the final year of his contract at the Clarets.

The big money move would make a statement to fans and the rest of the Championship after recent plans to turn the club kit and badge red appear to have been shelved.

Mirror Football described the shock move as the biggest transfer the Bluebirds could make since landing home town hero Craig Bellamy on loan from Manchester City - and claim Mackay has been told it will not be the only capture if he can pull it off.

Will Burnley want to sell to a rival?
Burnley turned down Southampton's £4.5m bid in January!
Burnley value him at £8m.
Premiership clubs such as Everton, Southampton, Norwich and Reading are heavily interested.

But we could probably guarantee him 1st team football :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

So what were saying here is the owners would have had that much to spend on one player if we would have been watching our team in red instead of blue?

Makes you think don't it
