Cardiff City are closing in on Joe Lewis
CARDIFF CITY are hoping to complete the signing of Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis by the end of this week.


The Echo understands the 24-year-old will travel to the Welsh capital on Thursday or Friday to put pen to paper on a three-year deal. Lewis is available on a free transfer after his contract came to an end and is seen by Bluebirds’ boss Malky Mackay as the perfect replacement for Tom Heaton who departed the club last week.

Lewis is set to put pressure on first-choice Cardiff shot-stopper David Marshall.

The Scot, favoured by Mackay last campaign, is also due to ink a new contract this week which will commit him to Cardiff until 2016.


The 27-year-old tweeted: ‘Thanks for all messages on new contract. Really happy and looking forward to next few years.’

He was until he played us on Feb 14th, didnt play again after that

He was until he played us on Feb 14th, didnt play again after that

He hasn't been since the start of the season that Jones was there first choice hes only made 12 apps all season

I know that Heaton wouldn't sign the contract as he wanted first team football, but I don't really understand the keeper situation. We have Parrish who is a Malkay signing who has not even sat on the bench as far as I know. He is now going to be relegated to third choice by us bringing in Lewis. He must know that Marshall is going to be our first choice, so what does it say about his mentality that he is happy to sit on the bench until required. People say he was called up by Capello as an indicator of his ability, but if he was that good, surely like Heaton he wouldn't want to be second choice.

From what I have seen of him Lewis is a good shot stopper but his distribution and command of his penalty box are very similar to Marshall - in other words poor at times. And if we need a keeper to replace Heaton, shouldn't Parrish get an opportunity? Otherwise, how is he ever going to get the experience needed to see if he is good enough to be a first choice keeper.

I'd love to be proved wrong by him but I'm not convinced by this one.

I'd think both Marshall and Lewis would be told they have Pre-Season to prove themselves for number one.
Anything can happen during the season, injury or loss of form etc.
