MALKY HAS INSISTED

Mon May 21, 2012 12:07 am

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has warned potential suitors that star midfielder Peter Whittingham is going nowhere.

Speculation is sure to mount this summer that the 27-year-old could finally leave the Bluebirds after a five-year stay in Cardiff.

With Cardiff losing out in the play-offs for a third year running on promotion to the Premier League, many believe Whittingham will now make a return to the top flight he fleetingly graced at Aston Villa.

Mackay revealed in December the Bluebirds had turned down a £3m bid from West Ham for Whittingham’s services.

And with the mercurial midfielder signing a new deal last summer to keep him at the club until 2014, Mackay said he expects Whittingham to be part of the future at Cardiff.

“I totally believe Peter Whittingham will be a Cardiff City player next season,” he said.

“He has only just signed a new contract and he has two years left on that, so I don’t expect him to be going anywhere.

“We have had no interest in him and, anyway, I’m not in the business of giving away our best players.

“As I have said from the moment I arrived here, I’m about adding to my squad and making it stronger, not making it weaker by selling our important players.”

Whittingham has regularly been the Bluebirds’ stand-out performer since former boss Dave Jones signed him from Aston Villa for £350,000 in January 2007.

He was again named Cardiff’s player of the season and scored 13 times in the campaign.

He made his 250th Cardiff appearance in a 2-2 draw at Brighton on March 7, grabbing a goal in the process.

Whittingham was also named in the PFA Championship team of the season and voted the best player outside the Premier League by readers of FourFourTwo magazine.

“When you look at the challenges facing Malky Mackay in the summer, midfield is quite a simple business,” said former Bluebirds favourite and media pundit Nathan Blake.

“He has to hold on to Peter Whittingham, while Aron Gunnarsson, Filip Kiss and Don Cowie all give him options.

“But the big one for me is Stephen McPhail.

“He fulfils a vital role but there are question marks over him quite understandably after everything he’s been through.

“Is he going to be fit for the new season? Is he going to be able to play 30 to 40 games?

“If he is bouncing in the pre-season then that is going to be very good news for Mackay.

“If he isn’t, Cardiff need to bring in someone to play the McPhail role.

“It’s a tough position to fill and perhaps one of the key signings Mackay might have to make in the close season.”

Meanwhile, Football League highlights will continue to be shown on terrestrial television after a new three-year deal was agreed with the BBC.

The deal means The Football League Show, which began in 2009 and is shown immediately after Match Of The Day on a Saturday night, will continue to be broadcast until 2015.

Football League chief commercial officer Richard Heaselgrave said: “In a short period of time The Football League Show has become an institution amongst supporters of our 72 clubs, more than a million of whom tune in every week for the comprehensive coverage the show delivers.

“We are therefore delighted that it will be continuing for a further three seasons.”

The BBC will also present television highlights of the Carling Cup and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, while BBC Radio 5 Live maintains non-exclusive radio rights to all Football League games.

Good on MM although I didn't think Witts was going anywhere.

Not sure I agree with Blake.
Replacing mcphail is very very very tough, not many like him about.
My plan would be to look at Kiss and cowie inside alongside Gunnar, witts but adds width.
Add in mcphail to play when he can.

Maybe add an attacking midfielder but I don't think we can or will get another mcphail

MM can insist all he wants because if the owners sold him he would play the old "deal was to good to turn down" or "he wanted to go" trick in the media weather he wanted to keep him or not he would follow suit to what the owners did with whitts even if hes sold under his nose like any player past or present . :ayatollah:

Please explain to me why our owners would want to sell one of our best players  what players have they sold under Malky's or DJ's noses since they have been here :? Why are you ALWAYS doom and gloom when you talk about Cardiff City, are you sure you actually support the Bluebirds as you seem to slag off everyone associated with us from our owners right through to the fans??

the whole point of whittingham signing a new contract was that A....if he wanted to stay he would be guaranteed good money....B...if he wants to go he is now a valuable asset to cardiff city.....i think he will go...but just my opinion :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Firstly, I grasp every bit of your doom and gloom effort as I always do but only now have I commented on any of your pathetic inputs on this forum. Secondly, I don't go on any other forum and I'm certainly NOT your lad. Thirdly, what the hell do you know what I do and don't do as a mod for this forum unless of course you have access to things on here that only mods can see  please explain that one! Fourthly, show me the FACTS as to what player the owners have sold from under the noses of any of their managers! And last but not least, every bit of input you put on this forum is negative, FACT! right shall we calm this down and talk to each other like civilised adults :D I didn't go off on one because you stated that's what happens at all, I commented because you were talking about our owners doing that, you are right that owners sell players from under the noses of managers, I agree with you on that totally, but you stated that our owners did that and were perhaps going to do that with Whitts, did you not? Here is what you said "MM can insist all he wants because if the owners sold him he would play the old "deal was to good to turn down" or "he wanted to go" trick in the media weather he wanted to keep him or not he would follow suit to what the owners did with whitts even if hes sold under his nose like any player past or present."
