I lived in London for 14 years, It depends what you wan't......I'd recommend staying around the Earls Court/Kensington Area as yo'll be in Zone 1 and 20 mins max by tube away from Arsenal.
The Fox and Goose (see link) is a cracking place to stay, only problem it's in Hangar Lane, but the Central Line is fine and you only a few stops from Notting Hill.

I just stayed in Earl's Court for a few days. Pretty good location.
Grab a tube day ticket and go where ever the f**k you want.

I spent a few years in London in Uni, and there are just so many place you could spin your heaa off, mind you Camden is ideally located for the Emirates and the pub life there is fantastic, it was Amy Winehouse's patch and lot's of pop and rock start drink there coz it's so lively, not sure of hotels, but there bound to be travel lodges and the likes all over there.

Camden is lively......there are quite a few of them premier type Hotels in Euston which is walkable from Camden.
cant beat Notting Hill Though.....bit more pricey, but a lot more Classy...Wake up and smell the purfume.
