" VARDY REJECTS CITY FOR LEICESTER "

Thu May 17, 2012 1:18 pm

Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy has, according to Sky Sports, turned down offers from both City and Peterborough in order to join Leicester. Record deal for a non-league player said to be worth £1m - could rise to £1.7m.

Cardiff City Turned Down By Non-League Striker

Cardiff City have been rejected by striker Jamie Vardy, who impressed this season with Fleetwood Town. The 25 year old has instead opted to join our Championship rivals Leicester City who are continuing to spend big in pursuit of promotion having flattered to deceive last campaign.

Vardy averaged almost a goal a game as he fired Fleetwod to promotion, scoring over 30 goals, but his goalscoring exploits impressed a number of Championship clubs including Cardiff City.

According to Sky Sports, Cardiff City's bid also matched Fleetwood's demands of £1m plus add-ons but it was the player himself who opted for the Foxes.

Malky Mackay will now switch his attention to other targets as he looks to bolster the front-line and provide competition for Mason, Miller and Gestede.

Vardy had the option of getting probable regular games with us or Peterborough, but has instead joined Leicester where he will be nothing more than a squad player at best. His first big move and it seems he's opted to go for the money ahead of his development. Definitely not the type of player I want here and there's no guarantee he will be able to make the step up from the Conference to the Championship anyway.

Don't blame him really, our club in turmoil and Peterboro are going no where.

If I wasn't a city fan id make the same move.

But the chances of Vardy getting regular games at Leicester are extremely unlikely. Surely the idea of making the jump up from the Conference to the Championship is to prove yourself at a higher level, unless you're happy just being a reserve, picking up a bit more money per week and then getting loaned out? Like I said, I would much rather someone come in with the attitude of wanting to play regularly and prove he can make the step up. Obviously players with this type of attitude would have picked to join ourselves or Peterborough and not just gone to Leicester for the money. Good riddance to him I say, he can rot down the pecking order behind Jermaine Beckford, David Nugent, Darius Vassell, Paul Gallagher, Steve Howard etc.

Fair comment. Are all those players staying, though? They've failed with them in the season just gone, so will they be offloading some now?

If he doesn't have faith in his ability to succeed at this level then he won't make it at any of the clubs.
I would think Pearson rated him or he wouldn't have signed him.

One thing we have learned from our Malky experience is Malky is not going to over pay for Transfers or Salaries. He is a gamble for any championship team and the salary probably reflected that.

I like the kid backs himself to push the others out.

The gap between the Blue Square and the Championship is a fairly sizeable one, I'd say. Big gamble from Leicester.

What this says though is that theres clearly a decent budget for Malky and its ready to use right now :ayatollah:

"Development?" This guy is 25 years old. Not sure he's going to get much better than he is right now.

Let's hope he regrets his decision come next May. I only want players here who WANT to play for our club, the guy's taking a gamble too thinking he can get game time in front of Nugent and Beckford.

No one knows if he is any good at this level anyway

Re: " VARDY REJECTS CITY FOR LEICESTER "

This makes me think of Stuart Fleetwood, I mean we let him go an some think that we shouldn't have after he scored 27 goals for forest green, but a move then to Charlton never worked out, they expected big things off him there and he never started a game. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

One positive is that if it's true then we seem to have money to spend.

Not bothered to be honest rather have Tchoyi or bring in Adam Le Fondre on loan.
You lot say the money side of it but lets think about this guy hes been in top form non league and whats to play at the highest level and wants to prove what hes about and make it big? He gone for the money and based on the future that move is bad for his future. :ayatollah:

Why would I be? We don't know any of the details and leicester probably offered silly wages. He is some unknown lower league player whom I never heard of. Do all clubs get every player they go in for? I didn't realise it was as simple as that

Leicester underachieved massively taking into account their squad and money spent. And since when do a few league placings make any difference to players when it's all about the wages. Or maybe he has personal reasons, family considerations or whatever. Leicester have already signed 2 players from man u so clearly have big plans for next season. There will be better players out there for Cardiff I'm sure and if they don't want us they we certainly don't want them
