Most bellends were caught quickly due to the fact they left their identity public. Indeed, most messages were via Blackberry not PC.

To get the information, ie IP logs, unless those logs are handed over by the ISP without comment, then the Police need to apply for a warrant to obtain them.

So, no, the police cannot within "two clicks" determine the info claimed.
