Striker Michael Owen has revealed on Twitter that Manchester United will not be offering him a new deal.
The 32-year-old former England forward joined the Old Trafford club in July 2009 but has made just 52 appearances.
"The manager informed me after our testimonial match on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract," said Owen.
"I have loved every minute of the three years I have spent at such a fantastic club."
Owen, who also had spells with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle, added: "I would like to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish them well for the future.
"I now plan to have a short holiday during which I will contemplate my next move."
Owen's last game in a United shirt came in Belfast on Tuesday in a testimonial for former goalkeeper Harry Gregg.
His time at Old Trafford was blighted by injuries and he managed just four league and cup appearances this season with his final one coming in United's 2-0 win over Otelul Galati during the Champions League group stages in November when he sustained a thigh injury.

Maybe DJ will sign him up for sheff wed and let him sit in the stands for the season who knows, not even worth a punt in my eyes and i can not see him wanting a pay as you play deal

Obviously he's been out of the public eye for ages through injury and not getting picked, where do you think he'll end up? Lower premier league???
You think he could be a high profile signing for us perhaps?? Former legend could be a shirt seller for VT in Asia??

It is a good idea but with his injury record shirt selling outside of CCS would probably be his biggest contribution.

Only see retirement for him unfortunately
not far off being the best striker on the planet in his prime

easy answer to all problems, £5K a week with a £20-30K bonus per game played
Maybe not them actually numbers but you catch my drift

Managed to get 16 goals with only 18 starts at united. Sure he could do a job somewhere on a pay as you play basis.

52 games in 3 years... That means a definate no for us, we need a striker to play 52 games a season, for the money he would want in wages, theres more realistic signings out there, and I'd be disappointed if we signed him tbh

Totally agree. Bellamy couldn't play every game with us with his knee, so can you imagine how bad Owen would be with his injuries trying to get through a tough season in the Championship over 46 plus games? He is exactly not the type of striker we need either. We need a powerful, mobile target man. We really missed out on Jason Roberts last season. We need someone like Romelu Lukaku or Kenwyne Jones. Perhaps this Sigurdsson will be the answer if we get him?

I think we've had enough of the older player almost on last legs, suffering with injuries etc
