On 02 - contract phone longer than 12months = free from provider

PAYG/Sim only - after 3 months of registering £20 fee.

It's the easiest way to do it. Trust me!

take a look on http://giffgaff.com/unlock

choose your phone and follow the steps. You will need to jailbreak your iphone which is simple to do although if you have updated to the latest firmware it can't be done yet.

better off just waiting 10 days for 02.

Does anybody listen!!

You can not unlock iphones yourself if you have done ANY recent updates on Firmware via itunes! (unless you have bought a iphone direct and outright from apple where it is sim free - or if its VodaFone who unlock for free if you ring up and ask them to do it!)

It updates the Base Band (or in simple terms - go into settings>general>about> and the modem firmware version number is what matters when it comes to unlocking!) 01.59.00 was the last base band capable of being unlocked - and even then you had to jailbreak your phone, on the older firmware and install a cydia tweak called Ultra-Snow.

Now - Apple release so many updates to keep patching bugs, issues and jailbreaks that it updates the Base Band every time you do it! There is a way to stop the Base Band being updated but you need 3rd party apps such as snowbreeze to jailbreak, and build custom iPa's (Hacked iOS FW) - and you would need to do this Everytime you wanted to update the Software on your iphone.

Read my previous post in this thread regarding a Service Providers FACTORY unlock. very cheap anyway.
