Non Negotiable - A Classic Pre Cursor to a Compomise

Wed May 09, 2012 2:06 pm

If you understand politics and business, you will appreciate the skill in which the rebranding message is being delivered.

How often have we seen a leaked document from parliament suggesting some sweeping changes and unpopular proposed legislation or policy. The leak is deliberate and designed to provoke a response to gauge public reaction prior to the actual announcement.

If you present people with the worst possible scenario and then make changes that are not as bad as expected, people are suddenly more willing to accept the middle ground. If a leaked pre budget statement gets into the press two days before the budget saying income tax will increase by 5%, everyone vents their spleen and expresses their anger. When the chancellor then calmly announces a 1% rise, all of a sudden everyone is relieved rather than angered.

Perhaps we are being given the worst case scenario, to make us more ameniable when they finally present the final plans. Maybe the seats will change colour, maybe the shirt will change colour, but all of a sudden it's announced that the Bluebird will stay on the badge. All of sudden the changes to the colour of the kit and the ground suddenly appear minor, because we saved the most important thing.

Who know's, maybe VT's playing a skilful game.
