Why these changes are essential for our survival

Wed May 09, 2012 12:29 pm

There have been a lot of people spreading absolutely unfounded rumours regarding the changes being made to the club.

These people are either blinded to the truth due to anger or refusal to trust the malaysians

First off the reasoning behind the colour change. Many people have suggested there is no reason for for the changes or that the only reason is that Vincent Tan is on a power trip and that his favourite colour is red.

That quite simply is rubbish. Vincent Tan is a self made billionaire. He's not just a fool with inheritence like Sheik Mansour or someone who was chummy with the leaders when the Soviet Union split up. He earned that money himself. Because of this he is not going to go to the wxpense of changing an entire football team's colours for no reason other than because he thinks it looks good.

In Malaysia red is seen as a lucky colour. Tan knows this. This is why the replica Man U and Liverpool shirts sell so much better than the Chelsea and Man City shirts. Tan is banking on the connection that the club has with Malaysia being able to tempt some of the plastic supporters in the country into gaining some emotional connection with our club which opens up enormous revenue options.

Which leads me onto my next point.

Presently our revenue streams are non existent. We don't control the club's catering. We don't have any rent coming in from the land. We can't raise season ticket prices due to the golden ticket scheme and merchandise sales are small because by now everyone who wants a replica shirt has one.

This means that if we weren't being bank rolled by the malaysians we would be in serious shit. There is no money coming into the club at all so this means that we wouldn't be looking at administration we would be straight to liquidation.

No one will buy us in our current state and the Malaysians know we will never be profitable if we stay as we are.

Please do not use the word "our". Our club is the bluebirds with the bluebird emblem. The club that you are on about is the dragons and they play in red.

Man Utd and Liverpool shirts sell so well not because they are red, but because the clubs have HISTORY you fool, that's why they sell more than Chelsea and Man C.

The asian football fans want to feel part of the culture and history of a traditional club, otherwise they'd support their own teams not half of europe.

What makes you think you know more about Asian culture than Vincent Tan? You're apl still thinking about this with your emotions. Do you honestly think a self made billionaire would go the the expense of rebranding a club at the risk of alienating the existing fan base if he didn't know there was money to be made somewhere? The sense of belonging is the fact it is a Malaysian owned club.

What make Vincent Tan think he knows more about British Football or the demographic of this football club than I do?

Football is emotive, that's why we are fans, not spectators, that's why the whole world loves the game. Decisions may be based on rationale and logic elsewhere but in football it doesn't work.

Look at the clubs trying to be business wise and look at where the success is, having fun and blowing your fortune as per Chelsea and Man City.

IMO he's doing to broaden your appeal across Wales.

It's done wonders for Wrexham.

Slightly off topic but similar, I've been to Florida (disneyworld) with the kids, and a couple of times happen to be there when it's st Patrick's day, I woulD say 80% off the people in Disney worl on st Patrick's were wearing green clothing, with reference to st Patrick's day, some subtle some over the top. I was curious, and asked a few if they were Irish or had Irish family, and the reply from most was, no, they just love Ireland, and everything associated with Ireland and the traditions of the country.
My point is, it's the history and tradition they are celebrating, not the colour green!

Keep the bluebirds, keep the blue home kit, the rest of the world will love us for it in the end if we are destined to reach the big time, our history and tradition of the bluebird and colour blue, will bring more success than a copy cat man utd.
