She said that re-branding of sports teams has been around since the turn of the century and before that. Cardiff City FC were once called Riverside FC after all. I am sure that back then Riverside FC weren't overly keen on changing their brand and image but it happened and look at what Cardiff went on to become.
Football is in a permanent state of flux and as much as we don't like it, it is part of the sport. You look at teams that won the league title and FA Cup back in the day... Wanderers, Royal Engineers, Old Etonians etc. None of them are around in that guise these days.
Don't get me wrong, I am a big advocate of not changing but what my missus says is right. It's a surprise that something like this hasn't happened sooner.

Like I said though, I am still against this on principle that the fans weren't consulted over such a major thing and it does set a very worrying precedent. I'd be happy to play in blue and red but keep the badge and nickname. Why wasn't there a consultation with fan groups???
