Coventry fan in peace

Wed May 09, 2012 8:57 am

Hi all. Heard about the whole rebranding exercise. As a Coventry fan I can see both sides of this. We were rebranded as the Sky Blues in the 60's and it was the best thing that ever happened to the club. We shot up from the 4th division to the 1st division and stayed there for over 30 years until 2001 when we were relegated to the Championship (things haven't been so good the last few years!).

On the other hand I wouldn't want someone coming along and changing our identity now. It would feel like someone stripping away the best years we've had as a club.

I hope it works out for you in the long run whichever way your club goes. Good luck!

Thanks for the input mate and I wish you all the best for the future, which doesn't appear to be rosy with your relegation!

I know you said you wouldn't welcome a change of identity at your club now, but if you were given the opportunity of a big new investment, as we have been, given your lack of income streams and League 1 football, what would you prefer?

Good question. We need the investment as the b******s that own us are running us into the ground. I think I personally would take it. Others I know wouldn't be happy. However, I think everyone would stand by the club (if not the owners).

If it got you guaranteed Premier League football for the next 10 - 15 years would you take it?

At least your owners are willing to invest money even if it is at the expense of some of your tradition. You would still have your club. I'm not sure we'll be able to say the same soon.

Thanks for your reply mate and I was gutted you were relegated, even though you score in the last 20 seconds aginst us a few weeks ago! :)

I enjoyed my trips to the Ricoh and whilst some fans say it is a soulless stadium, I think it's down to the fans to make the atmosphere and it's hard to create a decent atmosphere, with 14,000 fans in a big stadium!

Personally, I travel nearly 200 miles to get to watch my team and whilst I've enjoyed our last few years in the Championship, I want my team to experience Premier League football!

If the team have to play in tutu's to achieve this aim, then I'll be there to cheer them on!

You call me what you like, but I was at West Ham on Monday cheering on Cardiff, were you?

If you didn't notice, we played in white and we still chanted Bluebirds most of the game!

We'll always be the Bluebirds and I don't want us to play in red, especially as blue goes better with my grey hair, but I played a decent level of football and whilst I don't mind watching some lower league football, I want my team to be competing at the highest level!

I spend a lot of money travelling back and fore to watch a decent brand of football and would love Premiership football for Cardiff City!

Are you offering me a fiver for my gran btw, cos if you are, I'll give you the location of her cemetry and you can dig her up!
