A forum for all things Cardiff City

If you look at the club's finances during the last 30 years there has been a perennial problem. Reality is that football is increasingly selling its soul - TV money, overseas investors etc. etc.
I started going to Ninian Park as a boy in 1966, there are huge changes since then. We have constantly been subject to the whims of various owners, many of whom had no real affinity with Cardiff and Cardiff City.
AFC Wimbledon are not a realistic example to follow as the club moved 50 miles or so away. Instead look at Manchester United's disgruntled supporters who formed FC United of Manchester - a great start with 3 promotions, followed by 4 seasons in the Northern League Premiership. If a club with the fan base of Manchester United cannot generate a successful alternative, are the ideas of a rebel team - Cardiff City Bluebirds FC - viable?
The reality is that we do not have 50,000 fans prepared to invest £1,000 and raise £50,000,000 to buy the club and run it the way the fans wish.

I'm not suggesting we roll over.
If Cardiff City fans want to control the club then we need 50,000 to invest £1,000 or 5,000 to invest £10,000 even that would only raise £50million.
The reality is we do not have sufficient fans willing and able to make such investments to bring the club under fans control. As such we are dependent upon the whims of the owners.

Listen it was all ifs and promises by Tan and nothing concrete regarding this investment.

Fans ownership works well in Germany.....they havent sold out like the British Clubs.

The difficulty is that having accumulated a load of debt it then becomes very hard to raise sufficient money from fans to take over a club. Look how difficult it was for Wrexham and they weren't the tens of millions in debt we are.

The big question is if we were prepared to take the hit of administration. Potentialy go down and rebuild like Southampton.
There are so many ifs and buts, its hard to look at it all clearly.
