If the supporters of Riverside AFC had been like you lot...

Tue May 08, 2012 6:37 pm

...Cardiff City FC wouldn't exist.

Riverside AFC changed their name to Cardiff City as part of their growth. As far as I can tell, all we're looking at is a change of strip (and badge).

I don't support a team that plays in blue, I support Cardiff City FC. I don't care if go and play in polka dot dresses. If Vincent Tan wants to invest in the stadium, the training facilities, the team etc and he's asking us to change our strip in return, crack on.

Sorry mate, whilst I respect your views, I totally disagree with you, however your entitled to your own opinion.

Say for example, you regularly purchase your meals from McDonalds, on the basis you like what they offer and then suddenly someone comes along and buys McDonalds and rebrands it all to KFC. Then all of a sudden they change the menus, pricing etc.....would you continue to go there.....its still McDonalds, but its not the same, since you were loyal to the original brand.

Anyways, translate that into footballing terms, I am loyal to the blue cause, the traditions and history. Can you explain, what is the actual business sense in transforming and rebranding the blue to red, surely that would effect VT business model, you would lose customers (supporters).

He can do what he wants with the club, but you cant afford to lose your supporters.....and the only others who could possibly favour it, would be the Malaysians back home, but they're not exactly in the position to purchase season tickets unless we're established in Malaysia.

Utter rubbish, they were mostly in the amateur league and changed to become professional. They also didn't have over a 100 years of history and a well loved nickname. ie the bluebirds

Malaysians can go f**k themselves if they carry this out, start your own club instead of destroying ours

Riverside changed it's name to represent Cardiff City, the capital of Wales, if we do change the name which has been reported then imo we're taking that representation away.

When Riverside changed its name to Cardiff City they were virtually a parks team with few supporters! They changed their name in order to enter the Sourhern League! They weren't even pro when they changed! Hardly comparable circumstances to today! We didn't even have a stadium!

Are you suggesting that football is not on the menu anymore? The club are not serving up Rugby or Cricket, it's still the same game.

Sorry but seems like a very odd analogy.

Or they could pull out and we will have no club at all!

Bye bye then. You really think after a major cup final and a top 6 finish there'll be no one else interested?

With our debts it would be difficult, we are loosing millions a year and that's with VT helping us out! But hey let's f**k him off liquidate the club and start a new one up where we can play in blue!

For me this is a tough subject, many reasons why. From a fans perspective I wouldn't be wholly happy with a rebrand, however many clubs have changed their strip colours over the years but as most of us are saying blue is associated with our club, Sam Hamman change the badge and I don't remember as mug fuss being caused however it did still have a luebird in the badge but it did change part of our tradition, on the flip side as a fan associated with Cardiff over the last ten years we have had a great period as fans and expect so much now, if we don't take the investment and the rebrand how many fans will actually stick around when we go into administration and possibly to the wall? Let's not forget we are 70milkion in debt at present and rising, as a manager and a businessman myself I can also see Vincent tabs perspective here, he wants to invest £100 m of his hard earned cah into let's face it a failing club at present, by this I mean annual losses poor rrevenue streams and nk sign of improvement this is a big gamble and as a businessman he is looking at ways to increase revenues by getting new fans and worldwide trade, as a businessman the rebrand will refresh the company image and will attract new fans and income streams! So from a business perspective I understand totally but I am still on the fence myself, I will wait to see the developments as I would love to see a bigger stadium and better facilities and Cardiff city enhanced on the map and premier league football but I would also love to keep the emblem we have, I am not 100% bothered about the kit colour although it would be strange having a bluebird on a red kit, but we also has a dragon so the red would represent Wales on the map maybe?

The great Don Revie changed Leeds kit from a traditional blue and yellow to all White. Didn't do them much harm (riddler excluding of course) :ayatollah:
