An obvious hoax

Tue May 08, 2012 5:46 pm

This whole rebranding thing has all the telltale marks of an internet hoax. We have a brand new poster claim to have inside information and that this will be his one and only post, he gives us some outstanding "news", and then drops the bomb on us. Then of course, through the power of the internet, the news spreads quickly and everybody is up in arms.

Allow me to compare this rebranding rumor with the popular Nigerian prince hoax emails we have all received.

Elements of an internet hoax:

A: Start off with some unbelievably good news. A wealthy prince needs to fence a $hitload of money through your bank account! Or perhaps our club's debts will be cleared, training facilities will be built, and millions of pounds will be spent on players! Oh yes please!

Now that the hoax has your attention and has you wanting to believe, we move on to part B of traditional internet hoax the catch or offer.

B: Nigerian prince just needs a few thousand dollars to get you the large sum of money promised...and yes, he's good for it as we have already established. Or in the case of rebranding, we have to obliterate our traditions and identity to get all of these lovely things that are coming our way, but there must be some truth in it because we want so badly to believe in part A.

The only difference between these two examples is the motive of the hoax. Some Nigerian schmuck just wants your cash in the first scenario, while in the rebranding scenario the motive is to wind us up. Hmmm...I wonder who would want to wind us up after a 5-0 thrashing? Hmmmm....weren't we just taking the piss out of some other club for changing their away shirt to red with white shorts and green socks?

So why is the club not denying it?
Why is the club holding a meeting with various people tonight?
Why is the club going to be putting out a statement regarding it tonight?
And why do people with good connections to people inside the club think it is true?

The following is just my honest opinion:

Not denying it because if you've never heard about something how can you confirm or deny it?

Holding a meeting because there are a bunch of pissed off people with pitch forks about to storm the castle and the club want to reassure them that their opinion matters.

We don't know what the club will put out as a statement tonight. It might actually be "you've all been had, it's an internet hoax".

Those connected might think it's true because this whole hoax has gotten grossly out of hand and it's starting to be taken as truth.

You must admit it smells awfully fishy and there really isn't ANY solid information out there.

My other theory is that whomever sells blood pressure medicine in south Wales needed some drastic effort to reach their monthly sales quota and decided that a rebranding story would be the quickest and most effective way of raising our collective heart rates. Thus necessitating the purchase of said dubious salesman's products and the attainment of previously mentioned sales goals.

Keep the faith. We'll stay blue!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

A hoax made up by Wayne Nash and his cronies to deflect away attention from him.
