What happened to Cardiff City... we have lost our identity

Fri May 04, 2012 10:15 pm

Im not an old timer by any stretch of the imagination but I am old enough to remember the late 80's early 90's.

I feel realy sorry for the young lads of today as they will never know what it was like to be a Cardiff fan in the early to mid 90's and the brotherhood we had.

As I was going home on Thursday there was a fella on Talksport genuinly chuffed that we had been Family Club of the Year. I nearly choked on my kit kat chunky, we had lost 2-0 against West Ham and his pride was that we were Family Club of the year.

He must have been one of the 15,000 Johny come lately's who signed up for a hooh haah day out.

I am not gloryfying Violence or bullying but there was a time when we were proud to be intimidating, and now that seems to be wrong?

Where did all these do-gooding f**k wits come from and why have we let them take over our stadium?

I stood up to 'Malky's Barmy Army' on Thursday in the first 5 minutes, I was asked to sit down, I am a respectful person and sat down not to cause a situation but left my mark by telling them that its a f*cking football ground, play off semi final!!' Iv moved from the Ninian Stand to the Canton Next season.

If things dont improve, Im just going to do aways.. :(

Im a 16 year old boy and i often watch videos of football matches/atmosphere/violence from the 90s and Ninian Park era. At the beginning of the season i was in Ninian 113, but every time i sang or stood i got moaned at. I just hope we can get the Canton/Grange swapped around so we can give the place an intimidatory factor like NP.

What I also find disgusting is that swansealad69 was able to have a pint in The Ninian Park pub before we played derby. Even 2 years ago he would have taken one hell of a beating

i agree, we used to stick together and look after each other
we used to be a brotherhood us against the world
the new ground hasnt helped i still hate the place
every club is experiencing the same thing the skinner baddiel euro 96 crowd have taken over
football has changed for the worse

Try and go down the Railway before the Jacks game with SwanseaLads.

Wont happen.

Change hating fan elitists everywhere ITT

You also don't need violence for an identity, if you go to the football to cause violence you aren't helping your club, yourself, anyone. You should go to the football to create atmosphere and enjoy the match, not for a fight. If you're going for a fight you must not care about the former.

The problem is that this "change" has meant we hardly have an atmosphere anymore.
And if it carries on going that way, then lets just say I will not be giving the club £400 a year anymore (and many will feel the same).

it wasnt all about the trouble it was about belonging
a good example i went to brentford away in the early 80s i was 15, after paying for the bus a few cans and a few expensive pints in london ( OVER A POUND A PINT SHOCKING :o ) i was skint. the city boys in the pub we were in had a whip round to look after the young wippersnapper and i ended up going home with more money than i went up with.
thats what ccfc used to be like looking after their own and its something i have allways tried to do

Well then, you should all be proactive and get off your backsides and stop whining and reminiscing about the good ol' days. Sing, stand, help a fellow bluebird, continue the traditions of yesteryear, the club will eventually listen, but do not encourage violence, that is purely for morons and thugs and the weak minded, which is what other clubs perceive us as. In other words, take a stand.

Either that or we follow the far superior German method of the way football is run inside their infrastructure.

The point is that we ARE trying.
But most of the time we try, the stewards shut us down.
Its a joke.
Oh, and where did the OP encourage violence? Being intimidating does not equal violence.

Top Post. :ayatollah:

Below is a related post that I posted previously:

Rose and Barbara bitching again'' Truth is you can bitch all you like in defence of that crap tonight, Fek how much WHU have spent bla bla bla, Cardiff took TEN points from the two clubs that went up automatically (southhampton/reading) Cardiff also took a team that cost far more than WHU in money and talent to the wire in front of millions (Liverpool), A performance like that would have left WHU shell shocked, But its more obvious than ever that the plastic infested CCS along with club policies hasn't the vibe the Cardiff team needed especially in such games of importance, You will see a different Cardiff City at the Bolin on monday when 2000 City fans the majority Die hard's will make more noise than a stadium full glory hunters made tonight, That stadium of ours is a feking passion killer and it effects the players.end off

Football violence has gone chief. You can give it a go but you will most probably loose your freedom end of discussion. I was there early 80s and 90s they were special times.
But I agree with original poster on this thread completely.
But one thing this forum has done is given me a lot of top class frienEds that will be friends for life.
Yes swansealad is one of them but also a Millwall lad and a Zulu so what. I am to old for anything else now my bones crea, and I am a family man. When I go to football I want to come home again but that does not stop us from creating an atmosphere that other supporters used to fear. The loss of the terraces have led to the loss of this.
But at 16 I understand your frustration mate I have been there done it, but you won't ever experience it now as it ha been defeated and in a way now I am a dad I am glad.

I think maybe you should look closer to home, for example Annis wanting to hold hands and play wishy washy love in footie games with the Jacks.

The Jacks that were involved in that game took loads of stick and have been shunned by a lot of us down here...

Wayne it's gone. It aint coming back mate.

Franchise Club now.

Loads of reasons but last night i got to be honest from the away end - Franchise FC looked a Club no different to Reading.
in fact Reading sang more when we played them away .

you remember Wayne what i remember - but that was unfortunatly a different club mate . That Club died , thats having not a go at anyone - but its true , you know it and i know it.

Anyone who thinks we have lost our identity should come to Upton Park on Monday where they will see 2000 HARDCORE CARDIFF who will be singin their hearts out for this club, the club they love, and the passion that we show and the noise that we create will only be matched in our stadium when someone finally decides to switch the Family Stand to the Canton and give us back the Grange End. :ayatollah:

Correct. Premiership is less fun than the Championship too. Until the rich ones f**k off to a super league - for a normal football club it will remain shit too. Don't be too disapointed if you dont go up - you aint missing much !

Some people have a talent to talk more shite than a sewage works leak. How noisy will Upton Park be if you're 2-0 down and playing pants on Monday? Like Waitrose on a Sunday afternoon, like always.

West Ham are no different really to Reading or Watford or any other of the faceless south east of England clubs - you just have more fickle, plastic prawn sandwich munchers than them.

Crystal Palace made 10 times more noise in the Carling Cup semi here than West Ham. I'm not just saying that, they did.

It's bad enough reading your drivel but coming from someone who has had more clubs than Freddie Flintstone, it's a bit much.

Drivel for confratation is exactly what you write as you cant face facts . Yes i did always enjoy going to watch the local old Club Cardiff City when i moved to Wales - was a great club, no shame in that fella , in fact the old Cardiff reminded a lot of my west ham, but the new one is totally different thats for sure and one that gives me no interest whatsoever - simple as that . Now you bitter bitch take your bitch fit elswhere you numptie !!

The 2000 monday will nake a good noise no doubt but it wont be nothing like the atmosphere it would have been if we took 2000 there in the 90s.

The game has been diluted. Its a family game now, back then our away support was in the main young men.
