KEVIN McNaughton is battling to be fit for Cardiff City's Championship play-off second leg clash with West Ham but striker Rudy Gestede is definitely out.


Right-back McNaughton missed the 2-0 semi-final first leg defeat after suffering a hamstring strain during City's final League match at Crystal Palace.

"Kevin felt a tightness in a hamstring and it was touch and go for the first leg against West Ham," said manager Malky Mackay. "We felt we couldn't risk it for the first leg and we'll see how he is over the weekend."

Darcy Blake played at full-back in the home leg, but if McNaughton is fit, manager Malky Mackay may want to utilise his speed and ability to get forward and put pressure on West Ham's defence.

Gestede also missed the first leg at Cardiff City, and his season is over unless they reach the play-off final against Birmingham City or Blackpool at Wembley Stadium.

"Rudy fell and tweaked a knee," said Mackay. "It's not serious, but he won't be ready for Monday against West Ham."

How do we know he isnot good enough for the division. Its not exactly as if we have seen enough of him.

Injury prone, think we have had enough of those these last couple of seasons. Can't believe we have given him another contract.

McNaughton been rubbish for months and Gestede is a complete and utter joke and his fitness (or complete lack of it) is truly shocking .

Got to agree on Rudy's fitness, he seems to be always injured plays a game or two and then picks up some kind of knock or strain. If he truly wants to make the grade here then he's going to have to toughen up mentally and physically and start to contribute.
