Defending Corners

Fri May 04, 2012 12:52 pm

I can't understand why we bring every one back for corners and leave no one outside box all this does is invite pressure back on us as if we clear a corner the opposition player has no one challanging him so he as time to do what he wants with the ball. This has been happening all season and i can't understand the thinking behind it. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I don't really see the logic either.

However other than last night I can't really remember many times we have conceeded from a corner.

Good point. DJ commenting on one of our away games earlier this season said the same. Even if you clear the ball, pressure comes straight back at you. If you leave a striker by the half way line a team will drop two defenders to look after him. A city player should also have been 10 yards outside the box were turner headed his clearence which lead to the second goal.

We agreed on this a while back mate, thing that riled me most was 2nd half they had a number of corners where we defended exactly the same.
Collison stood on the edge of the box with not a single City player within 10 yards of him, to rub it in Noble on a couple of occasions ordered their left back Taylor to go short to bluff a short corner pulling 2 of our players out to create more space when the corner was crossed long.
They were taking the piss, we could see it, why could't Malky?
They took it a step further on a couple of occasions leaving Cole up against Darcy & Taylor when we had corners, the golden rule says 1 up occupies 2 and 2 up occupies 3. As stated above this really is poor tactics and West Ham had/have us Sussex, we need to change out strategy a kids side wouldn't defend using this method!

Also I wonder why we need to send 2 players out to mark the opposition player in case they want to take it short

Otherwise it normally means there's a 2 on 1 and the chance to walk it into the box

Why was it our that it was turner leaving the area to come ro the corner flag to close down aswell? Surely he's our biggest player and should me on the box with the likes of cole and Vaz te lurking?? CRAZY!!
