Roy Hodgson: Is expected to be appointed as England's new manager on Tuesday

West Brom have contingency plans in place should they be forced to find a replacement for Roy Hodgson - who is on the verge of taking the England job.

The Baggies are expected to find themselves without a manager on Tuesday, with current boss Hodgson having held 'positive' discussions with the Football Association regarding the vacant England post.

He is the only man to have been approached regarding the role and is being tipped to take the national team reins.

West Brom are readying themselves for an official announcement and sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth insists they will be ready to spring into action if required.

"Where we are strong as a club is in terms of our long-term planning," he said.

"After Roberto Di Matteo joined us as manager, I said we were looking at other managers and studying them so, in the event of him leaving, we would have a number of candidates in mind.

Good fit

"I took a lot of stick for that with people saying it undermined the head coach. Well he was so undermined that he got us promoted.

"Looking at what might happen next is not disrespecting or undermining anyone. We were simply looking at who might be a good fit here should a change be needed.

"You don't want a decision to suddenly drop out of the sky and you sit there twiddling your thumbs thinking 'what do I do now?'.

"You need to have some form of succession planning and that's the same with coaches, scouts, doctors, sporting and technical directors etc."

Birmingham boss Chris Hughton, who was interviewed at The Hawthorns prior to Hodgson's appointment in February 2011, is understood to figure prominently on the Baggies' wish list.

Former coach Michael Appleton, who is now at Portsmouth, Alan Curbishley, Steve Bruce,Cardiff's Malky Mackay and Charlton's Chris Powell are also believed to be possible candidates.

here's to hoping we go up, and then he wouldn't have to consider the West Brom job if he was offered it :ayatollah:

Of course he's on the shortlist, he's a very good, up and coming manager.....that's a huge compliment to us.

This is something that we're gonna have to get used to I'm afraid
