I'm now based at Brize so see the reality of it everytime a soldier dies as their bodies come back to Brize. We pay our own respects by standing to attention as the aircraft taxies past taking their body to the repatriation ceremony. Chokes me everytime.

Unfortunately they will 'walk it' regardless; now or in 2014. The presence of foreign military personnel does little besides antagonise the indigenous peoples. We entered Iraq and Afghanistan as a result of (frankly ludicrous) American interventionist foreign policy and spineless British leaders who were unwilling to deviate from the 'special relationship'.
We have gained little and lost alot in Afghanistan, we should never have entered. The British casualties are in vain as I have felt from the very start, and even the military are beginning to become disillusioned with the conflict itself. Afghanistan has served as a foreign grave for many years, the Russians previously failed just as we have done.
The present total for the UK alone is now over £18 Billion and rising. As of yesterday, the current casualty total is 410. Money well spent? Loss of life for a worthwhile cause? I don't think so.
We have not won the 'hearts and minds' of the Afghani people, we have not seriously disrupted the functioning of terrorist orgainisations, and we have not liberated the civillians from tyranny and fear. If the United States want to play 'Doctor Democracy' then that is fine, however I do not approve of British soldiers being killed for unattainable American aims.
This is not our conflict.

Imposing democracy on people is no better than what Muslims try to do by imposing sharia law on us.

That isn't happening. Nonsensical EDL rhetoric.

most probably not otherwise why would they sign up.

Yes they do. There are lots who take the literal meaning of the Koran to spread Islam and Sharia law around the world and to kill infidels.

I have huge respect for our armed forces and feel that we should never have gone there in 1st place. Blair following his mate Bush.
We need to sort out our own country before interfering elsewhere.
