Neil Alexander

Mon Apr 16, 2012 5:45 pm

I used to live next door to Neil when he played for City and I still keep in contact with him, he was down on the weekend so he called over my house. He was saying how he loves Cardiff and he would love to come back if there was an offer on the table. He also said that he told his agent in the summer to make an enquiry to Cardiff to see if they were looking for a new Keeper but they weren't in the market for a goalkeeper because we already have 2 decent keepers. If it wasn't for Dave Jones he might still be here, they didn't see eye to eye! If things don't improve at Rangers there's been strong interest from a championship club for next season as first choice. Would anyone like to see him return?

I do think he's a good keeper, but we've already got 2 great keepers at this level (one of which contract is running out) and another young highly rated keeper. So I couldn't see him coming even if we dont get promoted

I can also confirm this is true, him and his wife see Cardiff as their home town. Maybe if Tom Heaton moves on in the summer there's a chance he could be on his way! There are a few Championship teams at this moment in time monotoring his situation with Rangers.

I think he's very similar to Marshall mate, bit shy on coming for crosses but a great shot stopper and decent kicker.

Yes - I would take him back - I think he played well for us :ayatollah:

Did you tell him both of our decent keepers are out of contract in the summer?

Other managers in this league seem to think otherwise mate! He's a nice age for a keeper as well as a family man and modern day professional. He ticks all the boxes for someone like Malky.

Not commanding enough, That is why he was let go in the first place.

I agree mate he hardly ever made terrible errors, he was a consistent keeper In my opinion

personally i thought he was a good keeper very reliable. it took us a long while to find a keeper equally as good and reliable.

I told him Heaton was out of contract, but he said that he doubts that Marshall will go because he's settled in Cardiff and that he is one of Malky's favoured players.

One of our best Keepers, but i'm comparing him to the likes of Bywater, Enkelman, Konstontopolous(whetever his name was  )

Don't let sentimentality get in the way lads. Is he any better than Heaton or Marshall?? I'm not so sure

We have had a lot of shit since he left Trumbull, Taylor, Bywater etc

A decent keeper all those years ago. Right decision to let him go but DJ never replaced him which was the mistake.
Marshall and Heaton alread better and around 6-7 years younger than him. If either of these need replacing we will want to look for better and look ahead not backwards.
Since he left us in 2007 he has played 55 games

I would love to see alexander back and Jenko from Merthyr would be well happy if alexander came back between the sticks :ayatollah: however years have gone by and is he still as good as he was at the city always consistent imo :ayatollah:

It looks like Heaton will be leaving now in the summer unfortunately. Malky will almost definitely be looking for another keeper this summer unless he thinks Parish is good enough for the bench! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

He's no better than Marshall.

Re: Neil Alexander

was our number one for many years, i have happy memories of alexander, i dont want those memories to be ruined like whats happened with koumas, chopra and earnie!

If we are looking for a keeper in the summer then he wouldn't be a bad signing.Well up to this level.

Re: Neil Alexander

He's 34 and has played 46 times in 5 seasons and only 25 of them were in the league.

No thanks.

Re: Neil Alexander

If Neil came back in place of Heaton, would we call both him and Marshall "Scotland's Number One " when they played?

Re: Neil Alexander

All this discussion about Alexander would not be necessary if MM can keep Tom.

That's the problem MM has though as Tom wants to play 1st team football.

Could he alternate them? I dont think so as this may affect the team cohesion but on the other hand it would also make Tom/David have to challenge more to keep a 1st team place.

All I know is that we do not want to be in a position like last season when both GKs were injured and we had that tw*t Bywater

Would welcome Neil Alexander back, looks like Heaton is on his way out sadly, so we could do with Alexander. :ayatollah:

He was my favorite goalkeeper down Ninian Park for a while. 2nd Keeper for Scotland i see why we won't take him back. A class keeper.
