The horse I bet on today is now dead

Sat Apr 14, 2012 4:11 pm

I don't think I will bet on the horses again. Starting to think its cruel as f**k!!

I know it happens all the time but come on is there any need in using a horse for entertainment/ money making machine and then killing it!!

Did muamba get put down though?

Its the only horse race I watch - would not miss if it stopped altogether.

That is not going to happen as too much money involved

On the other hand I can understand the feelings of sadness but the horses are well looked after and if they were not raced would that be the case?

They put the horse down because it's all they can do for them.

A horse with a broken leg won't be able to move and then it'll catch pneumonia and die slowly and more painfully.

If there was a way to save the horses, with the quality of vets at the event, they would have done it.

Thanks to a miracle ni but other footballers have died on the pitch.

The fact remains soppy bollocks that race horses are very, very well looked after.

Muamba didn't have a 11 stone bloke on his back with a whip in his hand and have to jump over MASSIVE fences

I stopped betting on this about 2 years ago for the same reason. Human greed! The course is ridiculous its not a case of will a horse die from it, it's now a case of how many

Have you seen the size f the jockeys they are tiny! 11 stone is hardly likely! And any way horses are strong as hell a tiny man on his back is nothing

Re: The horse I bet on today is now dead

absolutely disgusting race - I haven't watched it for years as I hate cruelty.

I always hope that no horses will get killed, but usually that's a forlorn hope.

The difference with Muamba is :

1. The horse has no option but to race, whereas any footballer can decide not to if they think the risk is too great.
2. The chance of a footballer dying because of playing the game is probably millions to one in freak situations - at this particular horse race, every year there seem to be a number of fatalities.

I think the logic is therefore somewhat suspect from some of the posters on this thread comparing it to Mumaba :!:

Yeahive seen the size jockeys, okay 10 stone 9 stone whatever. You try jumping fences with a toddler on your back, not far off the same equivalance..I'm not saying horses don't enjoy racing and I'm not objecting to horse riding, but the fence heights and length of the course is cruel. As long as there is money to be made excuses will always be made the favourite being "the horses love it'

I just find it stupid how soft people can be. Do they feel sorry for that chicken/cow/pig that's currently being broken down in their stomach? Didn't think so

What about all the poor animals that get killed every day and all the people FFS that's life. If you don't like it don't watch. These things are not pleasant but do happen . If it wasn't for horse racing the horse wouldn't have been born.

Why does it make people stupid? So would you condone cruelty to a dog or a cat for example?. Just because people find the national a cruel race doesn't make them stupid. I hate any form of cruelty whether it be human or animal, and will argue the case every time, there is no justifying it in my opinion
I can't speak for people who eat chickens cows and pigs etc, because I'm also a vegetarian, so won't bother getting into that debate (personal choice). So I'm no hypocrit on any part.

In no way did I say those people were stupid. Just soft. It's a cruel world

Yeah you're right they are bred for profiteering horse races. The grand national is over the top, I don't disagree with horse riding, but the grand national course is ridiculous.
