MARSHALL - CITY CAN DO A BLACKPOOL

Sat Apr 14, 2012 7:49 am

DAVID Marshall believes Cardiff City can take inspiration from Blackpool after they gained promotion through the Championship play-offs two years ago.

“Coming to this stage of the season and sitting in sixth place is great for us,” said the Bluebirds goalkeeper.

“Blackpool finished sixth when they were promoted so it’s not a problem being there.

“I’m confident that we can earn the results we need.”

The Tangerines beat Cardiff City 3-2 in the Wembley play-off final two years ago and Marshall believes the Bluebirds can follow in their footsteps.

“There have been a lot of changes to our squad this season and over the last few months the consistency has not been there.

“But we’ve worked hard and are confident we can do it in these last four games.”

Blackpool had the momentum going into the 2009-10 play-offs when they won promotion and Marshall said Cardiff are in a good run of form themselves going into their last four Championship matches.

“We’re unbeaten in six,” he said.

“When you’re drawing a few people are disappointed, but we have a bit of momentum going.

“If we can win the next two (at Barnsley today and Derby on Tuesday) then we’ll be in good shape.”

Brighton’s defeat against Reading this week means the Bluebirds play-offs destiny is in their own hands.

City are two points clear of seventh place with 12 points left to play for and the Scotland ‘keeper feels they are well placed to finish in the top six.

“With four games to go we’re right in there,” he said.

“I’m quite surprised that everybody around us seems to have been dropping points.

“Birmingham are the only side below the top two who have been pretty consistent and they look as if they’re pretty much there.

“There are good teams around us, but we are focused on our own form and earning the points we need from these last four league games.”

I seem to remember Blackpool only limped over the line on the last day with a 1-1 against Bristol City at home.

In fact, if the Jacks hadn't had their goal disallowed in the last minute against Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool would have been out of the play-offs!

I'd love that. They had our place in 2010.

I hope so but IMO I think it would be a conspiracy if they didn't go up as in behind the scenes I personally think the carling cup may have been a problem regardin( ticket sales

I hope we get there and win this time. I couldn't take another trip to Wembley to end up on the losing side again - it's a bloody long way home to contemplate what could have been.

Whatever happens, we need to be 'in form' over these last few games - especially at home, starting Tuesday
