WHAT IS THE ANSWER?

Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:47 pm

How we can put such a brilliant and heroic performance up against Liverpool, but in the league which the players know is the priority, we are constantly getting dire games of football.

Were we so good against them because it was infront of a world stage?

You can't put it all down to the players because the tactics aren't working either.

What is the answer?

I think is that there's less pressure against the big teams. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Tiredness is definitely a factor, but IMO it's all down to tactics.
Why on Earth would you sit back and defend a 1-0 lead at home, when you know you can go on and kill the game off?

The thing is when the team got to the final they produced a display that was better than anything we had seen from them before. They dug deep and found that extra bit of go giving 110% the only problem is that it took all there energy to do so, that was plain to see with some of the penalties and even prior to that.
They simply can't play like that week in week out, or else we would be using the youth team as our starting 11 to cover for the amount of injuries we would get.

Malky is tactically inept.

After our goal wasn't the only chance we had Hudson's header from point blank range?

Hudsons "effort" was the easiest of the match. Miller hit the post and Gunnar unlucky with a fine header.

Malkys squad only allows us to be one trick ponies. Premier league Liverpool thought they would impose their game on us and never bothered to stop is playing, championship clubs do their homework, play a high line and jam the middle. Our lack of pace limits his options. We haven't got any.

Where is this idea coming from that MM made us sit back against Watford. He took off a midfielder in Lawrence and replaced him with an out and out striker named Earnie (who everyone wanted to come on as a supersub all the time) who offers nothing but a goal threat. He went from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 when we were 1 up. The players got nervous and sat back. MM was screaming at them to push out constantly.

This midfield dropping deep shit happened under Dave Jones as well. We need a captain on the pitch who will bully the players into keeping their positions and not messing things up by retreating like a bunch of cowards all the time.

For me we seem to have stopped playing the high tempo closing down of the opposition all over the park. Earlier in the season we would be in the opposition players faces all over the pitch, forcing them into mistakes and regaining possesion. Now we seem to stand off the opposition until they threaten our final third of the pitch. I also don't think our passing and movement is a slick as it was earlier in the season either. Now I do know that by using more or less the same 16 players week in week out we will end up with some tired and jaded players but it's the same for most teams in our division. One of the previous posters also said maybe we are lacking a real leader in midfield who would shout and bark instructions on the field. I think it's a good call, Qpr had Shaun Derry last season who had that kinda role and in years gone by we have had the likes of Kavanagh and Ramsey (Paul not Arron) who bossed our midfield. Maybe as well as the strikers and wingers we need for next season, an experienced hard tackling midfield general is also required. But give credit where it's due, we have got this far after a summer of total upheaval and we are still in with a shout of making the play offs, get in there and it could be anyones as we know. I am pretty sure before a ball was kicked back in August we all would have taken a shot at the play offs?? So come on everyone, please get behind the team and support them fully in hopefully 7 more games this season :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

great post mate

deffo tired. deffo no leader. deffo no pace.
engines are spluttering and the demons getting to some players - but these are pro's and really need to give this one big push.
the small squad rotation has hurt us.

Would you gamble on a game with no sub keeper????

Yes I would gamble, maybe not every game, but I would give it a go. ;)

The cup final was heroic yes. Brilliant no.

Lets be honest on another day we could easily have been beaten 5 or 6.

They had something like 40 attempts on goal.
