As we all know going into January after a fantastic start to the season things started to go wrong, and we have gone from a real force in the championship into quite an average looking squad.
I have looked at the fixtures before January, and the points and goal difference we were achieving up to the end of December.I have taken the performance we had then, and basically projected it forward to see where we would sit now if we had not had the slump.I have carried on with the 1.75 point per game average. I have also took our average goals per game and used that in my projection. The results are quite interesting, this is how the table would roughly look now without our slump.
npower Championship - Updated 11/04/12
Pos Name GD PTS
1 Southampton 42,+36,82
2 Reading 42,+27,82
3 West Ham Utd 42,+25,76
4 Cardiff City 42,+21,74
5 Birmingham 42,+25,70
6 Blackpool 42,+15,67
(9 more points and 12 more goal difference)
Could we have even bettered this? With the correct players added could we have improved our performance rather than just sustained it? This table definitely shows how well Reading have done since we beat them 3.1 on the 2nd of January, a performance we have not really measured up to since.Reading, having had only 2 wins and three losses in January, are showing unstoppable form picking up 37 points out of their last 45!

Can we learn from them?
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
The question is would it have been possible to have maintained or improved our performance if Malky had been successful in the transfer window, as some people seem to think?
http://bluebirdsbanter.co.uk/2012/02/ma ... one-1.htmlI think it has been a great season despite the obvious disappointments, im confident we will have an awesome season next year, the only question is in which division will it be in?
