"CITY WAIT ON CONWAY SCAN RESULTS"

Wed Apr 11, 2012 6:07 am

CARDIFF City are waiting for the results of a scan on Craig Conway’s injured ankle, although the winger is almost certain to miss the Bluebirds’ trip to Barnsley on Saturday, writes Steve Tucker.

Conway limped off in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Watford on Easter Monday after a stern challenge from Jonathan Hogg.

The Hornets midfielder was booked for the tackle, but Cardiff boss Malky Mackay thought the punishment should have been harsher amid fears the Scottish winger had suffered a broken ankle.

“I’m very disappointed for Craig,” Mackay said after the game.

“He’s gone for an X-ray and we are hoping his ankle isn’t broken.

“I thought it was an appalling challenge. It was a scissors one.

“I can’t understand the referee’s decision because it was a sending-off for me.”

Fears of a break seem now unfounded, but Conway’s involvement for the rest of the Cardiff campaign now hangs in the balance.

Cardiff now have four games left to earn themselves a Championship play-off place, starting with a trip to Oakwell.

Mackay is also sweating over the availability of two of his top young talents for the trip north.

French striker Rudy Gestede, 23, is carrying a hip injury picked up in the win at Middlesbrough last Saturday and is currently rated doubtful.

Fellow striker Joe Mason is also described as “touch and go” as he tries to shrug off a groin strain.

The 20-year-old has proved a big hit since arriving from Plymouth in a £250,000 deal last summer.

He scored Cardiff’s second goal in that 2-0 win at Boro before picking up the injury which ruled him out of the Watford game.

Be gutted for Craig tbh.
He certainly gives every game his all and i have been impressed with him since he came.
Made a difference when he came on against Millwall and no doubt many other games. :ayatollah:

Fingers crossed for him and I hope he can feature in the last few games and play offs if we get there :ayatollah:
