MALKY "WATFORD GAME NOT TWO POINTS DROPPED"

Tue Apr 10, 2012 7:44 am

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay felt the 1-1 draw with former club Watford represented a point gained rather than two dropped.

Kenny Miller ended his goal drought of 1,319 minutes for the hosts with a close-range header from Don Cowie’s cross on the stroke of half-time.

Play-off-chasing Cardiff were pegged back by Nyron Nosworthy’s 82nd-minute strike from Sean Murray’s free-kick, but Mackay remained upbeat over his sixth-placed side’s form.

The Scot, whose team beat Middlesbrough 2-0 on Saturday, said: “If someone had offered me four points from six over the weekend then I’d have to be happy with that.

“On the balance of the game we had two or three chances in the second half and if we had scored to make it 2-0 the game would have been finished.

“We are still in the play-offs with four games to go and we’ve only had one defeat in nine. I’ll take that into the last four games.

“The crowd haven’t been on Kenny’s back because they have seen the amount of work he has done for the team so it was great to see him score. He attacked the ball well and I’m pleased for him.”

On a less positive note for the Bluebirds, winger Craig Conway was taken to hospital for X-rays on an ankle injury after limping off in the 32nd minute following a tackle by Jonathan Hogg.

Mackay said: “We have sent him for an X-ray and we hope he has not broken his ankle.

“I thought it was an appalling and horrendous challenge. It was a scissors tackle. I can’t understand the referee’s decision on it. It was a sending-off for me.

“I’m disappointed for Craig because he started the game really well. He was having a good go at Carl Dickinson and was looking good.”

Following the interval, Miller was denied by Watford goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak’s post while skipper Mark Hudson missed a sitter from three yards.

But Cardiff’s inability to hold onto a lead was exposed once again when Nosworthy stabbed home with eight minutes remaining to leave the Bluebirds without a home win in six matches.

Watford manager Sean Dyche said: “Once we settled into the game after an edgy first 15 minutes I thought we were excellent and created enough to actually win the match.

“We used the ball really well and I thought we were unlucky to go 1-0 down before half-time.

“I reminded the lads at half-time to keep believing in what they were doing and that they were good players. We did the basics well against a very experienced Cardiff side and we did that in the second half.

“My players kept believing and that showed immense character.

“It was a tremendous experience for our young lads against a side who are competing for the play-offs. There were a lot of positives for us.”

A point gained I totally disagree with Malky I am sorry but it was two points lost end of.To play so negative after going 1-0 ahead was so frustrating and disappointing I was gutted leaving the ground we just sat back again and again we conceded I could see the goal coming for 5 or so mins.

Definitely 2 points dropped for me.

Bellend. Wish managers would stop using cliches, more people like Mourinho and Holloway are needed who speak their mind

I would have happily taken 4 points from Middlesbrough away and watford home, and that's what we got... just got them the opposite to what was expected... The style of play in the second half was boring and we let them have the run of the pitch, it was only a matter of when for them to score.

100% 2 pts lost.. no argument, we were 1 up and should have been in control.. too negative in the 2nd half and we dont have the quality at the back to defend for the whole 45 mins inside our 18yd line!

had we been 1 nil down and came back to 1-1 i would say 1 pt gained..

Come on Malky get real! Very disappointed in his management this year after an encouraging start, but comments like that! He has been making a few mistakes and needs to start learning by them. I support him 100% and stand by him, but the football has not been entertaining at all, worst its been in many a year. Slow, predictable and lacking creativity and pace. Come on MM drop the cliches and get some fluidity and pace into the squad in the summer. Cant believe we are in the play offs! :ayatollah:

Malkey, I am trying to back you here and will support any manager who is clever and good at their job, but you are slowly going down in my estimation with your crazy outbursts. Let's get things right, and I do not mind if we don't go up this year as I understand that we have to get things right behind the scenes first, but Monday's game was 2 points lost, and if you think it was only a point gained, you should perhaps look for another job, because that is not how we operate down here.
We try to play football, we give our all for 90 minutes every game, we do our best, but please don't spurt that crap, because Watford were very ordinary (that is a polite way of saying they were f*cking crap). Get real malkey or get the he'll out of here.

So you weren't happy with 4 points in 3 days?

Are both sides here, yes would have taken 4 points. But we are talking about Watford here, not Boro. 2 points dropped end of. It does appear Dyche is doing a better job than MM with a lesser squad? :?

I thought we were talking about the article above?
People are making out MM had some kind of rant about gaining a point but in truth he said it in context of getting 4 points in 3 days.

How is he doing better? League table suggests otherwise. Baring in mind MM had 10 players when he joined I think 6th with 4 games to go and an inch away from winning the carling cup ain't a bad return

2 points dropped ! Or did he mean 1 point gained ! Because he knows himself that the team are on a poor run of form or have just been lucky this season to be where we are.

This won't happen 2 seasons running

Malky will take us down next season

Malky one flew over the cuckoo's nest. He is In real danger of being sent to the funny farm FFS.
Why does he always go all out to defend a lead all the time. Because he comes unstuck nearly all the time. The only reason we got away with it on Saturday was 100% luck

I Would have taken 4pts from the last 2 games, but after doing all the hard work away to Boro and then going 1-0 up again...
We need to close games out....for me this was another 2 pts dropped.

Anyway here is the latest League Table...We are still in with a play off chance :ayatollah:
