Amazing tactics

Mon Apr 09, 2012 9:27 pm

I know we all think differently with regards selections, systems, tactics etc but can anybody tell me why we drop every player back for corners & attacking free kicks. I've always thought that leaving one up normally means occupying at least two defenders, two up means 3 defenders etc
I just can't get my head around us dropping players like, Miller, Mason or Earnie back as they are unlikely to win the ball in any case. The only certainty if we manage to clear the ball is that it's likely to come back pretty quick.

Also, when Gunner lines up for his long throws why are all our other midfielders outside the box instead of gambling on a flick on from Hudson or Turner...... I just don't get it? Any ideas anybody?

Couple of good points made there...fully agree with you.

I always say the same, makes no sense to me but I don't think we concede from corners often.

I say this every game. It gives opposition an invitation to send everyone forward and not worry about a break.

I understand we attack as a team and defend as a team but what happens if we win the ball from the corner?

Personally I'd like to see one or even two up.

I remember Mourinho when he was at Chelsea left three up!

I was amazed Kenny scored the type of goal he did yesterday. For once Cowie put the ball in first time instead of the usual back to Mc Naughton, to Cowie, to McNaughton, to the opposition - shit we may concede here tactic. For once Miller gambled on getting in the box early too meaning they had no time to get their shape back and actually defend what was a perfect cross. Football - its not a complicated game, get men and the ball in the box and there is a better chance you may score a goal than five passes on the edge of the box that ultimately go nowhere.

Its the same as mentioned above from set pieces - nobody ever looks for a knock down or a shot from the edge of the box, though in truth we never seem to get the bounce of the ball from defelections or poor clearances but if we had men in the box then maybe it would be different. And the one time we did yesterday, it unfortunatley fell to Hudson who put in a great defensive header instead of scoring possibly the easiest chance ever missed at CCS
