Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay fears Craig Conway ankle break
Malky Mackay has hit out at Watford midfielder Jonathan Hogg's "horrendous challenge" that the Cardiff boss fears has broken winger Craig Conway's ankle.
Conway, starting his first game for two months, was forced off in the 32nd minute of Cardiff's draw with Watford and will undergo an X-Ray on his ankle.
Hogg was cautioned for challenge and Liam Lawrence had to replaced Conway.
"I thought it was a horrendous challenge and I didn't understand the decision of the referee," said Mackay.
"Craig was coming into the game and having a go at their left back. He'll now go for an X-Ray and we hope his ankle is not broken.
"It was not a good challenge and we'll lose another player from that."
Scottish midfielder Conway, who had just made his way back to full fitness, had enjoyed a lively start and struck a 20-yard effort narrowly wide of the right-hand post before being forced off.
Striker Kenny Miller had given Cardiff a pre-match boost against Watford when he passed a late fitness test on his knee problem and he went on to score the opener at the Cardiff City Stadium.
But fellow forwards Joe Mason and Rudy Gestede, who have scored 13 goals between them this season, missed Monday's draw after suffering groin and ankle problems respectively in Cardiff's 2-0 win at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Cardiff, who are back in the play-off places after four points over Easter, have four Championship games remaining and Saturday's victory at The Riverside was their first of five games in just 14 days.
The sixth-placed Bluebirds visit Barnsley on Saturday, host Derby County and Leeds United before their final game of the season at Crystal Palace on Saturday, 28 April.
But Mackay is hopeful that French targetman Gestede and 20-year-old Irishman Mason can return for Cardiff's trip to Oakwell.
"Joe has a tight groin but we're hoping he will be fit," said Mackay.
"We're hoping maybe Rudy can be back for the weekend as well because we do have a very small squad."
