Fourth Official - Video Technology?

Mon Apr 09, 2012 10:14 am

With the increasing highlighted cases of poor referring decisions do you think that we are at the stage of considering the use of technology to make sure that match changing decisions, e.g. goals, penalty claims, ball crossing the line can be reviewed by the fourth official if requested.

In recent matches there have been numerous bad calls, Man Utd, Chelsea and even in our recent games where goals have been incorrectly disallowed. As in other sports like Cricket, Rugby Union/League, American Football would you be happy for the fourth official to be sat behind a screen and review certain decisions if required? Undoubtedly there were probably many bad decisions in the past but now TV is highlighting those poor decisions. Some poor decisions DO or CAN cost a team a lot of money. Its no good saying that decisions even them selves out over the season because if you are relegated by 1/2 points over a bad decision who's to say that that one decision cost you that money whether it be promotion or relegation. With todays technology reviews can be done in seconds and the correct decision made (penalty or not/ goal or not/ ball crossed the line or not). If inconclusive then the decision can stay with the referee.
