I think we'll all agree Malky Mackay is a quality young manager with seemingly ample potential to manage in the Premier League one day.
We all knew this was going to be a re-build season where Malky breathes new life into a club that was in tatters from a playing perspective upon his arrival. And Malky quickly established a culture, work ethic and connecrion with the fans that captured all our imaginations, thinking this could well be the guy to finally take us to the promised land.
Considering this, we were all still aware that Malky was still in the infancy of his managerial career and that mistakes will inevitably be made during his tenure with us as he gathers his experience. However the most concerning point for me at this stage in regard to Malky is his apparent inability to learn from some of the mistakes he's made in recent history, a factor that brings back cold memories of the DJ era.
Malky took us to a major cup final only a few weeks ago, and in the process via a team that played parallel to the work ethic he's stapled within the club, delivered one of the most memorable days as a City fan. However since the Malky has consistently highlighted the small size of our squad, but continues to pick virtually the same eleven for league game subsequent to our trip to Wembley - the players who haven't had a look in are too good to be ignored and have made too good a contribution to be continually shut out of the team.
The players look absolutely knackered but we still see the same eleven week in week out. Malky is keen to enforce his player selection criteria when considering transfers & loans etc, to ensure any new players won't harm the ethic or atmosphere surrounding the squad - but I wonder what impact his continued ignorance of some of the lads in the fringes or out of the squad is having on proceedings currently and our ability to improve on the pitch?
It doesn't take a fool to be able to identify Taylor, Cowie, Mcnaughton, Gunnarsson, Lawrence and maybe Miller all need either a rest or to be dropped from the starting eleven for a few games to freshen things up, but theyre still getting chosen. We can all see as well that our game/team is literally screaming out for width, but again no genuine wingers are being employed and our players are looking like School boys bunching up in the middle of the park chasing the ball.
Now I would like to state I'm fully behind Malky and I believe he has the talent in the long term to make a successful club out of us, where with a bit of luck we grace the Premiership under his guidance. However there are clearly hard lessons that are being sprung on Malky currently and he doesn't seem at the moment to be addressing them as quickly as we would expect.
Coventry at home will certainly be interesting to see how we perform and how we set up in terms of personnel and formation. I would like to see Mcphail, Darcy, Naylor, Ralls, and Conway all start on Wednesday.

My dear JonScam,i read your posting and i have to say i was very impressed with you clarity of argument something that is sometimes lacking on this board,i do admire your faith in Malky's ability to turn things around,a faith I'm afraid i cant share,i will be kind to him and say that the mistakes he is constantly making are down to inexperience and not lack of ability,so i ask you this simple question.....are you willing to give Malky possibly 2 seasons to gain experience and conceivably end up being relegated or bite the bullet now and go for a more experience manager asap and ask Malky to consider staying with the club as assistant manager to gain more experience ......i await your response with great interest

Why on earth would be be "concievably end up being relegated" with Malky? We're a point outside the top four and until recently we were challenging for automatics yt now because we've had a bad run you think we're likely to be relegated in two seasons? And why the hell would Malky accept a demotion? He's a manager, if he was going to get demoted he'd leave as there are plenty of other clubs that would want gim to manage them.

What i find concerning about our recent form is that there is no guarantee that MM will make any changes. There is a case to play the 5 subs we had against Burnley , but i would not bet on any changes. At the moment we are making average sides like HULL, BURNLEY and BRIGHTON look good sides( which they aint) . We can still make the playoffs but our coaching staff need to sort it out and fast

Guys, Plan B for this season is Rudy.
Lets be fair, he didn't have a team when he started, about half a dozen dodgy defenders and a few kids.
He made a team that got us points quickly, that team has been sussed, so plan b was Rudy, it has worked, damned ugly, but also got results.
If he didn't know what type of club we are, he will now. Some of us may have preferred the 4K~7K days in league two when the result didn't matter, it was about the being there, but about 15K don't (30K with the Wembley day trippers).
Unless Rudy comes back firing, or his physical presence allows Miller more time and he starts scoring for fun, we will not make the playoffs, so its time for him to blood some of the kids.

Yes I would be more than happy to give Malky at least two seasons on evaluation of the start he's had with us, but I wouldn't agree this would conceivably result in relegation!
I'd rather us go up on sound foundations both on and off the pitch where a culture and indentity has been embedded in our play & personnel both on the pitch and off it - we stand the best chance of staying up if we achieve promotion by those means.
Lets keep things into perspective here, Malky has done a brilliant job for us so far...I was just highlighting a point for debate. Malky clearly has faith in the eleven he's sticking with at the moment however if that faith continues to fail to accumulate points then Malky is more than intelligent enough to alter his approach. If we're having the same argument in two years time, then Malky should invariably have built an entire squad consisting of his own players and would presumably be less cautious to bring others into the equasion?

Good reasoning, I am the same opinion.
The first question, is how much of a loss he is willing to take on Parkin and Earnie ? The sale of Darcy will probably cover it, who doesn't seem to fit the Malky profile. I believe we will let Keinan go for next to nothing, and we should get a fair few bob for Gerrard (who was good with the kids on Sunday).
I hope Mc Phail stays on as a player / coach (another season as a player) he will be like the Scholes / Giggs role, quite happy to fill in gaps when needed, but his future is sorted and he is happy and dedicated to the club. His story and presence will also be an inspiration to a young team, another leader on the field helps.
Quinn is surprising omission as I thought he had a fair season last year and was the most improved player and appears to be of good character, a trait Malky desires.
Naylor may be allowed to leave, i believe his contract is up soon.
Then its up to malky, lets see if the recruitment department is up to much.
I believe he will rotate HIS players, as he trusts them to do it his way.

We've 6-7 players not being used / on their way out. Say 55-70k with regards to the wage bill.
Replace with 5-6 in summer, lower wages, say 35-45k, we've increased our effective squad size whilst addressing the overly high wage bill.
It's not rocket science and is long termist in nature, which the club needs.

Both wrong - the point I have outlined is in regard to the SQUAD that Malky has at his disposal and his reluctance to freshen things up potentially pivoting the fact the players ready for utilisation on the bench are not his own.
