A forum for all things Cardiff City

Under previous regimes - and the end of the DJ era - the mantra was spend and hope on getting promoted. Everything will then magically be rosy.
Reality is, that's a ridiculous proposition. How many advocating that would spend all their wages on lottery tickets in the hope of winning, hmmm?
What we have is the classic problem of wages being far higher than income. The club cannot long term survive under those circumstances. I realise fans believe owners should stump up money left right and centre but I tend to live in the real world.
The Malaysians have their vision for the club; over time, income will rise. The other area of the problem, the wage bill has to be addressed. We've too many fringe players - including Heaton - on high-ish wages who have no long term future at the club. We can't sell them; no team will take them on those wages hence we either pay them off or wait for contracts to expire.
I can see 6-7 going in summer. Heaton, Gerrard, Quinn, Naylor, Earnie, Keinan, Wildig etc. Estimating around 55-70k per week in wages then, we can address that with 4-5 players on say 35k max who can do the job, will improve the squad and will be assets that can later be sold if needed.
Why not spend megabucks on loans? We're in debt... reduce the wage bill by releasing players, replace with cheaper.
Hence I truly believe we've overachieved this season. It's year one of the Malky rebuild. A rebuild long overdue which will benefit us long term. People just need patience, the club needs to rebuild to progress. Quite frankly, whilst I'm sure some just want to see Prem football ( clue; football existed before Sky ) I'd rather have a club around in 5-10 years that isn't in continual financial trouble.

Point taken, but i think a lot of City supporters would be happier if they knew what the long term plans for our club were.
Whats our five year plan?
Whats our objectives?
Does any body know??
Do the higher echelons at our club really want Premiership football any time before 2016???

Five year plans, history shows they work well :p
Think it's fairly obvious what the plans are, certainly on the pitch.
Reduce wage bill, go for younger players to build the future. The development squad is there to help bring more of the youngsters on without throwing them to the wolves.
I honestly believe Mackay didn't expect either the cup run or to be as close to the playoffs as we have been this season. Especially given that the rebuild needs to be a total one, not just one or two players. You don't build an entire squad within 6 months.
No, people just need to realise this season is only part of the rebuild. There are going to be some bad performances, some bad results, maybe even miss the playoffs - that's just not important because people are focusing on short termism and as a consequence missing out on the bigger picture. I full expect the rebuild to be another two seasons. If we get up, great, but the long term is far more important.

As Frank Lampard said its ok having a long term plan providing you dont forget about the present time.
Crowds are going to fall if served up with the shit weve been
served recently and then we will be in even more financial trouble. We will akso struggle to attract players.
Overacheived? Get real even when we were winning the football was poor.
We play square pegs in round holes and thats f**k all to do with what MM inherited.
Cowie, Mason and Lawrence all being played out of position and the best player he inherited shifted from attacking midfielder to centre half.
We need a football man on the board so Malky is answerable to someone.

Whats Sven doing these days, he`d make a good director of football, (and attract some totty to the club)..

Totally agree with your last point, I am really concerned about the fact that we have no one at Chairman or board level who has real knowledge of the workings of the football industry.

Your most valid point in a while. This needs to be addressed.
By the same measure, Malky is a young manager who is still learning. He will make mistakes: our job is to help him realise those mistakes, and learn to address them promptly.

I think
Gerrard
Quinn
Naylor
Parkin
Keinan
Heaton
Wildig
Taiwo
Santiago
McPhail
Will be gone in the summer. Should free up at least £60k a week. Then if we bring in players who can take up £45k a week at most who WILL do the job, that will put us in good stead for promotion, and strengthening in January. If we do well in a cup, all the better. Also Ralls will probably step up a little further next season so we dont have to break the bank. Then if we get promotion the debts will probably have a massive chunk taken out of them

Who are these players we can pick up who are on less wages and who are better than the players they are replacing....
If it was as easy a that most teams in the country would be doing it....
We need to buy better than we got, if we can't afford to do that, then we will have to settle for what ever happens.

we replaced dj for failing to get us promoted... we brought in a young and promising manager, still learning and with a very small squad.. a tough job...
my main concern is, you normally replace someone who you believe can do the job better , otherwise what is the point in sacking someone in the first place...
some of the football we played last yr was fantastic to watch, fast, energetic and at times superb.. i havnt witnessed anywhere near the same quality this yr as last yr.. yes personnel has changed, but our poor performance against reading and boro last yr is currently no different to the drivel we are watching now v hull etc...
